Replacement Key Fob

Hi Guys, I'm after a bit of advise, I've recently purchased another key for the RRS which was advertised as new and with it looking like new and still having its identification sticker down the chrome part I took a gamble on, when it turned up this morning I slipped the chrome side bar off and inside is a cut emergency key, so I take it its been an unused spare key and has been already programmed to a car at some point, so what I'm asking is can the keys be reprogrammed to a different vehicle as is, or do they need the transponder chip changing like the slot in keys (not key less entry) on Vauxhall's and other makes ?.
I've been out and had a go at reprogramming it with the Gap Tool, but I think because its a MY 13, it came back with a failure and a message "This version of key module may need to be unlocked contact GAP", does anybody have any ideas, thanks in advance.

Dek

Just to finish this up, a second hand fob can be reprogrammed to a different vehicle but only the doors and starting part, the emergency stick it under the column part cannot, that's a program once transponder chip and would not work on the new vehicle.
On another note, I purchased one of the updated fobs off of the bay, as in the pictures and with the help of Patrick at GAP, it programmed straight in to the vehicle, but just as a warning if any body is thinking of buying one, it is slightly bigger in size than the original chrome bar type fob, but works perfectly.
