Front heated wind screen not clearing two strips L320 2012

Hi all,

Merry Christmas,

I just wondered if anyone knows what could be causing this issue (Please see attached image)?

I read through the history of the vehicle and it looks like in an old service they said issue with screen not clearing and said they changed a fuse to fix this. But when looking through the manual i can't find a fuse labelled for heated windscreen.

There a quite a few chips and a little crack in the windscreen so i'm wondering if the heating wires in the screen have been damaged in those two areas

?

Any help advice would be hugely appreciated. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

From what I've read on here, there are 2 circuits, one for each side with separate fuses. Looking at your photo's I would say you're right; damaged elements.

It’s a common problem and looking at your picture they are not in a good place on the screen. There are two fuses 40amps each, one for each side of the screen. If it was a fuse half the screen wouldn’t clear. Looking at your picture it’s broken elements.
Only solution is a new screen.
Time to “have an accident with a hammer” and get a new one.

Thanks Oldandconfused, i'll go back to the manual and look at the fuse info again and see if i can see where it labels the driver side windscreen. And if i'm able to find the fuse number and its ok, i guess that will confirm the screen chips have caused this.

Thanks again for the help 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

The Two fuses are in the Engine Bay fuse box.

Dealer tried to charge me £600.00 + for new screen way back but said they couldn't do it under warranty and tried to say a stone had chipped screen and damaged element, turned out to be £1.25 fuse which I discovered myself.

Cheers

Wow they are unreal. Did your issue look like mine, with a strip or two not clearing or was yours the whole of one side of the screen not clearing? 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

It was quite a few years ago as car was still under warranty, but to be fair if I remember correctly it was the whole L/H side not working, not just a couple of strips.

Probably not fuse in that case but they are located in Engine Bay Fuse Box, they are in a bank of six fuses located to the rear and slightly left, sort of pink square 30amp rated "J" type fuse, position 2 is right hand side and 6 is left hand side.

Just remembered my original post, would appear neither side worked.

Sorry this conclusion is nearly 3 years old. I hate it when i read through threads and there no actual concrete conclusion at the end. So i thought its only fair to update it, we recently had a stone fly up and crack the windscreen right down the centre. Had a new windscreen installed and i can clarify in my case the two lines that wouldn't demist previously must of been caused by a small previous chip in the windscreen that damaged the heated wires in the screen. As now the whole screen completely clears since fitting the new screen. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black
