Engine oil leak SDV8

Just discovered oil on the drive. Investigation reveals this is coming from the engine. Has anyone had an issue, want to know where to start. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Checking today I can't see oil on top of the engine although I would need to remove intake to get a good look. Oil is dispersed at the rear of the sump guard. Where is the oil cooler located ?

I will see if I can get a little camera to look further. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Not the best pictures in the world but first one shows oil filter/cooler assembly under the intake manifold plenum chamber, second picture shows it exposed if there of any help.

Thanks for the dia, When I took the cover off I could not see oil, but will use a bore scope and see , may have to remove intake.

Car has extended warranty , but I like to have an idea of the issues before letting a dealer lose on it.

Leak is minor ATM but these things can get worse and oil in the area of exhaust isn't perforable. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Head over to the sister Full Fat forum as the 4.4 TDV8 was first used in them from 2011

OK pulled the sump guard off, what an exercise that was , be warned the once only use bolt and washer system is overkill and you may end up needing a grinder.

No leaks from down below , there is oil in the valley which leads me to suspect the directions from this site have been on the money.

So oil cooler gasket will be needed , am surprised how quickly this has developed . At least I can go to the dealer and ask for a quote and make sure they have the parts before starting.

Whilst this is apart is there any other preventative stuff that should be taken care of?

Thanks for the info has really been good. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Hi.

Sorry to bring up a old thread but how did you get on with this?

I have noticed a slight oil leak on my Mrs 2014 SDV8 running by the looks of it down the N/s back of the engine running down the bell housing! It's only very minor but it's a leak alone and as we all know it will get worse over time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Indus Silver / Santorini Black Roof MY16 Autobiography Dynamic Hybrid 354bhp. 22" Style 504 Alloys. Lunar Grey / Ebony Seats and Interior. The answer is above, two new o rings and a new gasket is the fix. Cost me 350 pounds. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
