Hi All, my P400e is due next week and want to sort some side steps out, i'm seeking clarity on whether you have to cut the sill covers or not? there seems to be some conflicting info on the web... or is the due to the way the steps mount? does that affect whether or not the sills covers need cutting?

as this is a lease car, i have to seek permission for "modifications" from the finance company, my theory is if they just bolt on without actually having to cut anything, i don't have to ask them for permission and i can just remove them when it goes back in 4 years

You need to cut the plastic undertrays for the steps to fit on a L494,I’ve fitted plenty & you cannot fit them without cutting. Andy.

It’s not the sills that need cutting it’s the undertrays so you can fit the brackets.A friend is a tech at LR & he said even on new sports they have to do some cutting to make the steps fit as the plastic trays cover the holes that hold the brackets. Andy.

lol so this is exactly my point, i've got one person saying no cutting and another saying there is cutting

i suppose what needs cutting is less relevant, but if something needs cutting i'll have to ask the finance company

I can say 100% that the steps fitted to my vehicle have no cutting. I watched the guy fit them, he was armed with a socket set and a battery drill. It took him 15 mins to fit them, no ramps, jacks or cutting equipment.

It was the owner of JNK (JNK 2000) in Bilston, West Mids, who fitted them as he did it out of hours on a Saturday morning for me. They manufacture the them and supply numerous resellers, they supply Urban amongst others.

I have steps on my 18MY and absolutely did require some under tray cuts (which i was advised is standard procedure)

No, if you use the sidessteps ones they fit with NO cutting. I know this from fitting them.  2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Which ones have you fitted jimbg.? The ones ive fitted you can still jack the car as the bracket is stong cast alloy for that job,i have seen steps fitted with just metal brackets & you cannot jack up on them & the cover the main jacking point. Andy.

They don’t show the brackets in the other ones, I also cut my under trays and they are totally secure Joined the X5 45e club

lol I'm still confused, so if the sidestep ones don't require cutting and the undertrays cover the fitting holes, how do they actually fit then?

You need to cut the undertrays,you could always leave them on when you send it back,or just remove them as I cannot see the lease company or whoever you are getting it from going under the car to check it. Andy.
