Turns out my worries were unfounded. I held the tailgate up with a broom, removed the clips on the ends of the struts, a sharp tug on the strut and removed each one. My car has asymmetric struts, so sorting out which one is which takes a second or two, and then a quick reassemble. The struts make the tailgate slightly more difficult to open but after a while, there is a hint of self-opening.

I also did mine earlier this year. I got them from Advanced Factors (see site sponsors). Part numbers were LR027543 RH /LR029320 LH. Around £20 each IIRC. 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......

Are you sure? I thought they were the same size, but the gas pressure is slightly higher in the one side than the other due to the extra mass of the subwoofer on the one side of the tailgate. Here are my notes from when I replaced mine... LR029320 - left hand, force of 755 Newtons. (OEM part number 6H32-406A10-BB and has blue writing). LR027543 - right hand, force of 785 Newtons. (OEM part number 6H32-406A10-AB and has red writing). Kev MY2014 L405 RR Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 in Corris Grey MY2010 L320 RRS HSE 3.0 TDV6 in Stornoway Grey |

The ones I got from AF were the both the same and are a direct replacement for both the LH and RH LR part numbers. They're upgraded (higher pressure) so will fit either side.
