United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black
Anyone used this kit to change their gearbox oil?

Good afternoon all

Was just wondering if anyone has used this kit before and can speak for the quality?

https://www.lrparts.net/da2142gf-automatic...ne-zf.html

I am going to change the gearbox oil on my 2006 4.2sc and was looking for a kit with a seperate filter so I can cut the spout from the original, to wiggle it out.

Thanks

H Very Happy

I haven used it but it won't change most the oil I think. You need a full flush that forces oil through and cleans it all out changing 99% of it.

Why not have a megaflush done instead? You'll change all of the oil then rather than just a percentage of it. Most of the oil sits in the torque converter and doesn't get changed when you drop the sump. It'll cost the same sort of money and does s complete change. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

filters don't really need changing on these. (having opened one with over 100K miles )

There are various ways you can get all the oil out.

drain oil from the gearbox sump, then run engine for 20 seconds. That will get most of the oil out.

There are also cheaper oils. You can order a drum from Germany for less than £50 and do two changes.

Cheers chaps.

How much is a megaflush then? I read somewhere on a facebook group that sometimes it can do more hard than good!

Would be nice not have to take that sump off to be honest, and £180+vat is quite a bit if a megaflush is circa £300 and I don't have to spend an hour or so getting dirty.

Could also just get the drum from germany, drain, drive, rinse and repeat...

Where are you located? If east London then just take it to Martin Hind at Dartmouth Transmissions and Autocare. He will inspect the filter then Megaflush it.

If you're a DIYer, just flush it yourself.

It's easy enough with a pressure sprayer and some hose.

Have a read of the filo thread on the disco3 site:

12 litres of fluid is usually enough. Personally, I pumped 20 litres through mine.

You can get 20 litres of Mannol AG55 which is suitable fluid for the ZF 6HP box for around £65.

i always wondered if you could do the same for an engine? drain the usual amount from the sump and then crank over the engine a few times to get the last remnants out?

Thanks so much for that! My family own a garage so I have access to ramps and all the tools, so this is much more pleasing than paying someone to do something I can do.

I'll go for the 20 to make sure I get as much as possible out Smile Really appreciate the assistance.

Absolutely. You really don't need anything other than a few basic tools, a pressure sprayer and an hour of your time.

You'll also change more fluid than a garage megaflush as you will be flushing through the lines and the cooler.

And of course, there is the satisfaction of doing it yourself and keeping a few hundred quid in your wallet! Kev

A mega flush gets all of the oil out because they connect in to the line between gearbox and cooler. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Ah, I didn't realise that. I thought it plugged into the box directly. My bad! Kev
