Do you need to remove viscous fan to change radiator?

Hi,

I have a 4.2 S/C and my radiator needs replacing. Can this be done without removing the viscous fan on this engine? I've tried all afternoon to get it off. Is it left hand thread?

I've tried smacking it both ways but without the locking tool I'm struggling. Have doused it in WD40 and will try again tomorrow!

I've done a search and can't find anything on here.

Thanks

Yeah they are left hand.

Leave the belt on.

You need to knock the spanner to the passenger side.
But yeah they are a difficult.

Don’t forget the ac condenser it bolted to the main rad.
So remove the 2 bolts at the front. Lift it a few cm out the slots and cable tie it with long ties to the slam panel

Hi Andy

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate that!

I'll hopefully get it off tomorrow without needing the locking tool! This is the toughest one I've contended with.

Cheers Thumbs Up

According to the workshop manual they are a R/H thread on the S/C's.

Haha the hammer did the trick in the end. 36mm spanner and belted the crap out of it, was the toughest viscous I've removed.

Pulled all 3 rads our to see 2 are leaking, only the air con rad appears to be leak free..

Looks like I'm shopping on eBay for £320 worth of radiator, sad times. I'm also worried about fitting them as it's very tight. Any tips when refitting these?

Thanks all
