Normally people just jack them up using a proper jack.

ive a 3 ton trolly jack , but when i jack it up wheels do go off the ground -but quickly wheels go down before i could get wheel nuts off |

Have you checked to make sure it's not your jack that is the problem, one of my jacks does that,,,, and it's not exactly an old unit but it won't hold any substantial weight. One of these days I will repair it. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Having spent some time today jacking mine up, jacking on the lower rear arms pivot on a 43cm 3 tonne Halfords trolley jack gets the wheels off the ground enough to get axle stand under and without maxing out. |

What is this lock thing - there is no such thing as far as jacking goes - you jack the car up and the wheels stay on the ground until suspension travel is used up and then the wheel lifts. What is with the truck boot open - this is nonsense. The official way is put the car in offroad height - this is to minimise the amount of lift on the jack you have to do - put the jack under the jacking point under the chassis and start jacking, and jacking, and jacking and after a long time the wheel comes off the ground - then you can remove the wheel. If you have a trolly jack or a hydraulic jack you can put it under the relevant front wish bone and if it is safe, when you jack it will lift the wheel off the ground directly rather than lifting the body first until the suspension range is exhausted then the wheel lifts. 07MY RRS TDV6 Arctic Frost Aspen Interior |

do you happen to have put the car into access mode ? and thus its lowered/compressed the suspension. I've always jacked it up when in normal height, and just pumped away with a 3tonne trolley jack. No problems at all. Put chocks on the back wheels also. |

If you are jacking off the wishbone rather than the chassis then the height of the vehicle does not matter. Also having a door open had no effect - it will stop a change of height which has to be activated with the console switch but does not stop the car leveling. 07MY RRS TDV6
