I've read so many posts now about the egr delete that it almost seems a no brainer ! Very few have said oh leave it in , engine's designed for them ... my rr sport tdv8 2007




still has them , it's had new turbos , new injectors , new turbo pipes , I believe it's mapped but I've found under hard acceleration it puts out smoke , not lots , and only under hard acceleration, no smoke on start or tick over , but just wanted to know if egr delete will stop this or if you just have to live with that as it's a V8 lump running diesel ?
I know there's heaps of other benefits to blanking them so im pretty sure I'll have it done anyway Smile
Anyone know a good rr indi around Farnham ?

Apart from any legal implications (tampering with emission equipment and insurance issues), had it been a 2.7 I would say yes.
However, I'm sure I read in a thread that DM, the LR guru of this parish, advised against EGR blanking on the TDV8. May be worth having a search on here.

its not recommended on the TD V8

The TDV8 requires a map change to blank the EGR. A simple "bang in a plate and off you go" approach doesn't work apparently.

The EGRs one my old TDV8 were changed at about 160k miles. Not because they had failed but because they were taken off to do something else and it seemed silly to put the old ones back on. Had they not been taken off anyway, they'd have still been on there now, I'd say. It's currently on over 180k miles (it lives elsewhere in the village now). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

As RRSTDV8 says, a little black smoke is normal under hard acceleration, infact for almost all diesels.

Mine does it and I have no DPF or other boxes to hold deposits until they are 'blown' away, and I've had new Borg Warner turbos and a carbon clean (which exposed the exhaust manifolds as having a leak) fitted recently.

If nothing on start up and when tickling around, I'd say you have nothing to worry about.
