Apart from any legal implications (tampering with emission equipment and insurance issues), had it been a 2.7 I would say yes.

The TDV8 requires a map change to blank the EGR. A simple "bang in a plate and off you go" approach doesn't work apparently.

A little black smoke under hard acceleration is normal. It's a result of slight over fuelling, in effect. A bad remap can do this too. Removing the EGRs won't help unless one of them has failed in the open position. A failed EGR would throw up an EML anyway. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

As RRSTDV8 says, a little black smoke is normal under hard acceleration, infact for almost all diesels.
