My local indy (who i've only used once before) tells me the waterpump is normally done at the same time which made sense but another one says its not normally done as its not driven by the timing belt.

Personally, I wouldn't. I'd just replace it if its noisy. It's one of those things though, some people replace them because it makes them feel better.
