Retail price of the 3 belts and front idlers is £365 + VAT, or £440 for round figures

That leaves £255 (Inc VAT) for labour charges. Divide £255 by your dealers hourly rate...

Book time for front belt is 3.5 hrs and rear belt is 2.4hrs

Whistle

Its an interesting one isn't it as the parts cost and the labour time are both itemised out but there;s no labour rate on my invoice - it just then says - fixed price and sums up to the quoted fixed price at the bottom of the invoice. Could be a dealer error or it could be an attempt for JLR to grab some service traffic back from Indies. Who knows ? 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

I do know that the dealers get a rebate on anything under the fixed price scheme, so they are paying a lower cost price than they normally would

I expect it's an attempt to get people out of the indys and back into the dealer, who make their money back on up selling any additional works

i would imagine thats exactly what it is - BMW do similar periodically with reduced price genuine consumables and fixed price brake pad and disc changes then wack on £300 for a brake fluid change etc. There are certain services on the fixed price scheme that are also paired down. the B service on fixed price does ommit certain things for example (can't remember what) 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Timing Belt Question

Hello everyone,

Apologies about asking the question as I am sure you are all sick of hearing it.

I have just purchased my 2010 range rover sport HSE 3.0 V6.

The car is very clean and the previous owner had only owned it 6 months.

There is no record of the timing belts been done in the pile of invoices I have with the car and was wondering if there is a way to tell they have been done?

The car has 69,400 miles.

Sometimes a sticker is placed on the slam panel. If there is no sticker, err on the side of caution and presume it has not been done. Kev

Also be aware that there are two timed belts on these engines and both need to be replaced. Kev

I've been quoted £795 + VAT for the 2 belts and water pump (?) from the local indy i used last.

With it being a pricey job i've gone to another slightly further afield for a price and they have quoted £625 plus VAT for the 2 belts and he's says the waterpump is not driven by the timing belt and therefore is not normally changed unless its leaking.

Again, new to the RRS world and all other 'normal' cars i've had the pump done with the belt.

Who's telling the truth?

Cheers

Is there any straightforward way of ensuring that the work being paid for has actually been done?

For example have the rear belt and pulleys actually been changed? Forgive me if I sound like a cynic but garages have not the highest reputations for honesty. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

The rule of thumb is to go somewhere you trust/comes recommended or do it yourself.

I suppose if you really wanted to verify the rear belt yourself it would be a bit of a pain but it could be done with some mirrors. Kev

When having the work done you could ask the garage to take before and after photos. Tell them that you want the photos as proof should you sell the car or if there is a warranty claim in the future.

Whats to stop them showing you pictures of another car they have done the work on?

Or the old parts that came off your car? How do you know they are not from another car?

If there is no trust there, whatever they show you won't matter...
