Its an interesting one isn't it as the parts cost and the labour time are both itemised out but there;s no labour rate on my invoice - it just then says - fixed price and sums up to the quoted fixed price at the bottom of the invoice. Could be a dealer error or it could be an attempt for JLR to grab some service traffic back from Indies. Who knows ? 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers) 2000 D2 TD5 - definitely mine 2005 D3 V8 Metalian Camper trailer for adventures |

I do know that the dealers get a rebate on anything under the fixed price scheme, so they are paying a lower cost price than they normally would

i would imagine thats exactly what it is - BMW do similar periodically with reduced price genuine consumables and fixed price brake pad and disc changes then wack on £300 for a brake fluid change etc. There are certain services on the fixed price scheme that are also paired down. the B service on fixed price does ommit certain things for example (can't remember what) 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Sometimes a sticker is placed on the slam panel. If there is no sticker, err on the side of caution and presume it has not been done. Kev

Also be aware that there are two timed belts on these engines and both need to be replaced. Kev

Is there any straightforward way of ensuring that the work being paid for has actually been done?

The rule of thumb is to go somewhere you trust/comes recommended or do it yourself.

When having the work done you could ask the garage to take before and after photos. Tell them that you want the photos as proof should you sell the car or if there is a warranty claim in the future. |
