Long time since had my TDV8 but I though pushed down it's permanently active and basically does it's own thing, when raised driver can manually control different settings, which is basically what Scrumps said I guess.

No Col, not on the L320 - there was no "does its own thing" facility. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Surely if it's permanently active it must allow it to do doing something, otherwise in might as well just be switched of when the knob is down. I guess it depends on how you interpret what it actualy says in the handbook, although automatic probably isn't the right description.

I think you are getting confused as TR cannot be turned off (unless there is a fault). This is normally the onroad setting and the computer runs everything - the other TR settings have to be manually selected - there is nothing automatic about it - all in the handbook - just checked.

I didn't say it could be turned off, I said it was permanently active so it must be doing something in that mode. I also said automatic was probably not the right word to describe what it does do, but if it is controlled by computer with no input from the driver in that mode some may describe that as automatic operation. I think this is a debate that could just go on and on based on choice of words.

If no special programme is selected, then the system just runs the default road-biased traction control / DSC settings. Centre diff can come in to play too, I think, but obvoiously on tarmac it's very unlikely.
