I’ve heard that the main one is not to turn the engine off straightaway. Give it a little time at idle to let the Turbos spool down and cool down. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

A spell at tickover after a long/fast run always a good thing and I've always understood that frequent oil changes (say every 4/5K miles), especially if lots of short journeys. I've had mine a year now and that's been my routine so far. 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......

I've been using Redex for a coupe of years now. Tesco often have half price offers (£2 instead of £4) on the 2 shot bottles so I buy few when the offers are on. That works out at an extra £1 on the cost of your fill up. I have no idea if it helps or not but I'm guessing it can't hurt. Time will tell but I am on 95,000 miles now so heading rapidly towards the 100,000 mile mark. And yes, let the engine run for a bit before turning off. I think it says something to that effect in the handbook. Robin

It's my understanding that turbos' bearings are lubricated by circulating engine oil. If you switch off the engine before allowing the turbos to cool down for a couple of minutes or so, then the oilways carbonise and block up which stuffs the turbo.

Yeah that sounds about right to me Goffy........ I’m intending to stick to regular oil changes with the Castrol 5/30 A5 and always allow the engine to idle for a minute or so before shutting off. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed. Out of interest what’s the general consensus on what it would cost me to replace the turbos in the even of failure? 2009 3.6 TDV8 HST |

Replacing the turbos on a TDV8 will be £5k if they both need doing, and assuming proper units are used. Buying "refurbed" units from ebay will be a false economy. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Nothing is ever a recommended main dealer job in the Land Rover world. Get yourself a good independent. Kev
