Front end noise when cornering

Good afternoon my 2010 RRS has started making a slight wurring sound when cornering not major noise yet but don’t like to hear anything that shouldn’t be there anyway my first thoughts was maybe the front hub bearings but jacked it up and no movement up or down on the wheels has anyone any other ideas it will be going in to specialist I’m just curious what it could be ideas welcome cheers Ian

Hi Heliflyer

Sounds like it could possibly be the bushes needing replacement?

Ooh I'm not so sure then - I had a similar issue and took to my garage who replaced the bushes and fixed it - I'm stumped now Big Cry

My guess is that I'd look again at the wheel bearings. When I had issues with my RRS, I took it to my local indie who said, lets go for a quick test drive. Up the road we went, and he gently turned the steering from side to side. Within minutes he said "its you offside front wheel bearing. Listen". And then I could hear it. Wheel bearing replaced and all was better.

The other thing to look for is something fouling - so look for any shiny surfaces behind the wheels.

One other thought is whether the power steering has an issue??? Robin

I'm with Robin on this and would look at replacing your wheel bearing.

A whirring noise would only be caused by a rotational movement. Given this is occurring when cornering when the centre of gravity of the vehicle is shifted further towards the said bearing and greater force is therefore placed upon it, it makes sense.

Worn wheel bearings do not always exhibit play.

Concerning replacements, it is best to buy the complete hub assembly. Do not buy a cheap one for these vehicles because it will fail in no time. Either go for: Genuine Land Rover (££££), Timken (OEM, same part as genuine @ approx £125) or Optimal from AF (4 year warranty, £72)

I had play in my front nearside bearing and I changed it on the weekend for an Optimal. It was a simple enough job to do on the driveway. Kev
