United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE Santorini Black
After service test drive

Hi all,

Random one, but my RRS 2012 V8 SC just came back from it service, and my tracker tells me that the mechanic it took it for a 1km drive before the service with a max speed of 40mph & average speed of 6mph which sounds completely normal.

When i drive it locally i'm lucky to reach a max speed of 20mph with an average of 5mph speed

But then it was taken for another test drive i'm presuming after the service which the mechanic took it for a 3.4mile drive and reached speeds of 61mph and average speed of 11mph all these roads they traveled on are london roads with speed limits of 40mph max.

This journey should have taken 16mins usually but took them 13mins.

Does this sound normal? Or do you think thats a big excessive and they decided to have a rag around in my car.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

I think it could be hard to say either way, they could say a test drive will put it through its paces and check everything under load but do they really need to test drive it. I don’t think my car gets a test drive as part of its service.

Let’s hope you don’t don’t get an SP60 through the post. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

A nice careful drive before the service (to see if anything needs attention)

A good drive after the service to ensure they haven't made anything worse

You wouldn't want to have to take it back complaining, would you

Absolutely needs a short test drive. On my D4 they (main dealer) did a 4 wheel alignment, obviously didn't do a test drive, the steering wheel was well off and pulling everywhere. I then had to rebook it at even more inconvenience to me. Joined the X5 45e club

Had some work done on mine recently & it was also taken to have the alignment done , on my return they informed me that the vehicle now drove superbly which it does, he also let me have a drive of his TDV8 which had EGR deleted & had been remapped to show me how much improvement can be had. I have no issues with them driving my vehicle.

Test drive AFTER the service. Very rarely do I test drive before

Been on the wrong end of leaking brake pipes once too often, so the car is brought in, checked over and serviced first Thumbs Up

And just to add Mike, that the journey back up to the Highlands after the service and gearbox flush, was superb. Very smooth gear changes now. Well worth the 380 mile round trip. Previously owned 1999 Disco 2 TD5

How do know if the knocking at the front has been sorted?

You can hear the knocking at the rear better

It doesn't seen excessive at all and I wouldn't worry about the top speed knowing how effortless 5.0 sc accelerate to 61 mph but I know that they could have stepped on it thru first and second gear. As I said I just wouldn't worry. I think the best indicator would have been the fuel level if You were to worry about them hooning around in Your pride and joy
