Some slightly cynical responses on here. Bearing in mind that it’s possible to get a sport for around £3k, spending double that should get you something decent. I’ve had a 2.7 and a 3.6 and much preferred the V8. At that age you will have to watch mileage on both as the 2.7 will have needed cam belts and the v8 turbo’s have been known to give in. These are quite small numbers though so you will give yourself the best chance if you check history carefully and make sure the car you buy has been well cared for. The v8 diesel and petrol are both crap on fuel unless you drive like a nun

If you're only doing Sunday mileage, fuel use is not relevant. For a handful of thousand miles a year, the 2.7 is pointless. Getting a petrol makes more sense.

The V8 diesel isn't crap on fuel. I got only 2 or 3 mpg less in my TDV8 than I am in my current SDV6.

Get a 2.7 and you'll have plenty of time to consider your choice whilst you're waiting for it hit 30mph...  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes, I agree the 2.7 is a bit slow on the uptake (ok,once it’s going though ). I got about 18mpg out of my tdv8 and about 28mpg out of the 2.7. Although I only get about 25 out of my current 3.0 v6! Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

I must agree with Hoppy cynical responses, these aren't speed machines they are luxury motors that can keep up with some yobbo youngster, if speed is your thing 60k plus motors 10-12 years ago there are a lot faster quicker motors out there at the same age for the same money, these have a marque status even though slipping with reliability.

If you want the feel of fast on town streets go for roadster type cars i have had a few MX5 yes hair dresser car but fastish and nimble lethal in the wet or should i say damp weather, or smart roadster go kart fun that can give a lot of motors a run for the money.

Or take a test in all of them V6 V8 or the SC and see what you feel is the best fit. comfort will be the same just the foot down feel is a little different, but hey doing 50k+ miles a year there are very few and far places where putting your foot down is now an option or a reality, small fun cars are now hard to roll in and out of a little refinement is more of what i like, speed well put your foot down and see how many points you can avoid.
