Dear CV - The 6 ton DIY axle stands worked beautifully.

In the removal of the factory exhaust, the second hanger is one hell of a b*tch to get off - not sure what worked...WD40 or silicone spray, but mostly lots of swearing and elbow grease.



Once you get the factory exhaust off...which even with just 800km on the car, was not easy - thank God my wife decided I looked pitiful under there and crawled under to help (What a girl! ) then you're back to the heartache of getting that second from the front hanger onto the new system. Past that, fitting the other bits is easy and miraculously...it all lines up nicely.

I then took it out for a quick drive to be sure nothing banged anywhere - which it does not

Well done singletrack. Certainly looked nice and shiny in the hall. I know it is probably early days but from the sweet sound have you noticed any improvement in performance? What size is it from the central muffler back?

As you say the resonator is rather large and I can imagine full of S#%t to comply with strict noise and emission standards. I have only been under my car a couple of times and by the look of it I thought my exhaust from the resonator back was already 2-1/4", but I could be wrong. I will measure it when I get back onshore. I would think the replacement of the resonator with a hi-flow one and then straight out to two tail pipes would allow a much smoother flow through the exhaust. (And obviously give it a much sweeter sound.)

I have PM'd JE for some details but the killer may be getting them downunder. You say the system arrived in a number of pieces. How big was the packaging?

I very rarely drive in regular auto mode. I have found I get not only better responsiveness but also better economy in sports mode or manual. Unfortunately the only real way to eliminate turbo lag is by fitting a larger turbo. From talking to a number of people I believe an ECU remap can assist with turbo lag but will not eliminate it down low.

The re-map significantly reduces the turbo lag, but fitting a larger turbo will make it worse not better. A larger turbo needs more exhaust gases flowing through it before it starts to produce boost, but will typically produce more power higher up the rev range.
I have the same exhaust as Singletrack and the re-map.

The pipe from the catalyst is at least 54mm - but after the stock muffler, it is definitely smaller and by my measurement 41mm. The JE/Larini pipes are larger. As I still have the box (cardboard day is this Tuesday) I have measured it for you - 130cm tall by 43cm wide and 58cm deep. Big

I have little doubt that JE would double check the contents before shipping it to Oz so that you don't have two right bits when you should have a left and a right.

I was out today driving about in sport mode and manual - and agree, it's a more pleasant drive - in "American" mode, you press on the accelerator and then wait...

One final word on the exhaust - as a driver, you will notice the sound outside when the car is idling, but what you may not hear is the sound heard by a bystander - that is very sweet! As i've said I have emailed JE to get a quote to get it sent here. Will be interesting to see if it works out viable. As you say I am sure they would check it has a left and a right side before sending it right around the world. I have been to a number of exhaust and performance specialists here in Perth and the price varies quite considerably from the reasonable to the ridiculous. My only concern here is that nobody is familiar with working on the RRS. Having a good look under there it is pretty tight and you wouldn't want anything not fitting snug especially when you are out in the bush with all that suspension movement.

Yes Paul I suspected that with the turbo. I have been in touch with Chris (LRtuning) and have spoken to him about venturing west for a group chipping session. Still trying to get the final numbers and work out an appropriate timing etc. The dual solution of exhaust and ECU upgrade sounds like the way to go. I would have thought a larger free-flowing exhaust would have given a tangible performance increase but I suppose it is pretty difficult to quantify unless dyno'd.

Anyway guys thanks again for the info. As usual this forum is a fantastic resource for all RRS owners wherever they are.
