Side Step Trim Falling Off :(

Anyone had any issues with the side step running board trim falling off? Sad I cannot seem to find a fix for this issue and don't really fancy having to buy brand new running boards just for the trim.

I have still got the trim as its holding on by 1 of the fixing, but will be falling off within the next few days i think.

Which RRS have you got,the RRS2 trim is only held on by 7-8 rivets but if it’s the early model I can’t remember how they are held on.Some I bought for my14 some of the rivets corroded & I nearly lost it but before it fell off a got some rivets & fastened it back on. Andy.

Mine is a L494 not a L320 like yours but I’m sure someone on here took their trim off to clean it up so I’m sure they will post soon. Andy.

Had the same issue with mine, easiest option is to remove the step by taking off the smaller 5mm bolts, leaving the main support brackets attached to the car. Pop off the rubber tread, you will see where the old rivets have corroded so drill them out. Give the whole thing a coat of underseal or Hammerite, when dry put rubber back on and clamp the edge trim in place in the centre. Drill a new pilot hole and use short heavy duty self tapping screws and some oversize washers to secure it,, work your way to each end doing the same making sure the ends are pulled in nicely,,,, voila!!. 4 or 5 tappers should be enough to pull it in as it is quite springy hence the need for a small clamp to keep it in place when drilling. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Mine popped off at the the front on the drivers side. I drilled through mine and put a small bolt through it. You can’t really see it as it’s tucked away behind the wheel. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

If one rivet has popped the rest will be ready to go,, the only way to fix it properly is to take the step off and put all new fixings in 2010 RRS, TDV8

Is it worth using stainless steel self tappers to prevent corrosion in the future? Robin

Yep, had to re-rivet mine a couple of times now. I don't think the standard allow rivets last very long, galvanic corrosion is at work I think. I meant to remove my side steps in the summer, and sort them properly, but didn't. I'll probably now have to do fix them when it's -5 Big Cry

A couple of pics ...

Eaters,, I did actually use stainless tappers and washers, certainly a good idea if you want it to last 2010 RRS, TDV8

Same here...

My sidestep edge trim has also fallen off.
I've brushed off the rust and lose flakes from the set and cleaned up the trim itself too on the inside.

Will I have to drill out the rivet from the trim?
7 of 8 rivets are still in the trim, but obviously they have no heads.
What rivets are needed? Any links please?
Thanks!
