Bit late to say hello to everyone seeing as I've already posted elsewhere, but.. I picked up a 2010 TDV8 HSE a few weeks back - at the time it was the cheapest 2010 TDV8 on Autotrader so I guess I was doing a Hoovies Garage - as you'd expect it came with a few niggles for that price, and it's been a smoker's car at some point.

I don't think the dealer expected it to be back in the first week for two new EGR valves, but beyond that I know it needs a little bit of TLC - new headlight bulbs are on order as one HID has failed, it probably needs new suspension bushes at ~100k on the clock, and a proper valet.. and I can't help myself looking at mods like later style lights, android head units etc it's a sickness!

By way of an 'almost' three month running update, so far what's happened is ...


... very little.

The reversing camera is broken (the image is back-to-front) and I was very kindly donated a new camera module by a member here, but despite that, I still haven't found the time to actually fit it (I seem to have spent all my time either fixing her indoorses MINI or working on the kit car, instead!).
The front lower wishbones need doing (ker-lunk!)
The ARB bushings need doing (creaky creaky!)
There's something growing (no, really) underneath the ashtray that I really need to man up and fish out - but I'd rather deal with the dead pigeons the cat leaves in the garden than the "green mass" that looks like it might eat me
The interior needs a damn good valet
I haven't fitted the towbar electrics yet (I have a non-RR wiring kit and I'm uhming and ahing over buying the proper one instead)
Something near the back has a small leak .. maybe diff, maybe something else, must investigate!

Something near the back could be ARB, Brake pipe or diff. Check your Dynamic Response reservoir level and mark it, then monitor.

If it needs a really, really deep valet, I’d recommend taking the front and rear seats, centre console and carpets out. It’s a big task at first but when you’ve learnt how, it can be done in a few hours and put back in even quicker. It makes a big difference to get those carpets out and washed and dried properly. I also made £1.28 back in loose change and found quite a few trim clips and a few fuses dropped from the CJB. Oh and I could also sponge out the gallon of Coca Cola the previous owner spilt all over the console and down under the seat. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Thanks I haven't had a warning light for the ARB yet, so at least if it's that it is a slow leak brake pipes were an MOT advisory last year, though the level seems stable for those so fingers crossed (although at least I'm fairly adept at making brake lines having had plenty of practice on the kit car!).. I am officially having "one of those weeks" - two 600x300 bathroom tiles fell off the top of the wall last night, smashed a floor tile and the sink on the way down, and today the RRS failed the MOT..

Alternator replacement - £600
MOT - £53
Being told it has failed the MOT because the rear passenger door lock failed this morning - priceless

Plus both offside tyres have picked up nails, one unrepairable, the front nearside tyre has had a chunk taken out of it by road debris, and an advisory on front & rear control arms, front wheel bearing and rear brake pipes..

Looking on the bright side, at least it's "only" the brake pipes that are the problem and not the other plumbing back there. Right? Right? Body lift to replace, I assume.. although if I can patch them, I would be tempted (have plumbed the brake system on the kit car so have plenty of kunifer and flaring tools suitable for steel & copper etc).

The door lock was just plain bad timing .. and I didn't think about the fact that it would result in a fail when presented, when I jumped in this morning.

A little update - the new tyres (General Grabber AT3 275/45R20) have transformed the ride, so that was money well spent.

Still on the list of things to do are the rear brake pipes, front suspension arms and rear suspension arms, as well as it would probably benefit from new shocks & air springs all round.

New on the list today is .. the heated rear screen, which doesn't appear to work. Step 1, check fuses!

So far, since purchase:

Rear screen - check the connector underneath the spoiler. It's a common fault.

Mine wasn't working when I bought it so I chopped the connectors off, soldered the wires together and heatshrinked them so they won't be going the same way again! Kev

No probs. Ah, my camera also wasn't working when I first bought it. Also a dodgy connection under the spoiler. I ended up applying a bit of hot glue to the connector to secure it and it's been fine since. Kev

I don't think brake pipes are such a massive issue. Mine failed the MOT last year because of them, my indie replaced both front to back pipes and the cross axles,, only took them an hour or two,, came to 300 quid orthereabouts including the MOT 2010 RRS, TDV8

Good to have a ballpark to shoot for - thanks for that! I'm not too worried about the laundry list, really; although parts can be expensive, they're not usually extortionate

Didn't get chance to look at the heated screen today as I spent the day up to my armpits in bits of MINI..
