Since May I have been using RFID pouches to help protect my RRS against relay attacks. However I have found that after about 8 to 10 weeks the pouch has failed and I am able to open the doors and start the engine with the keys in the pouch. I have now had 2 pouches (different makes but cheap ones from Amazon) fail. I bought 2 from amazon & both are still working fine,i always have one in my pocket at work as sometimes ive caught the boot remote by mistake & had customers come in my place to tell me my boot is open so I know keep them in my pocket in a pouch & I know it works as when I finish work I sometimes forget to remove key & car wont open. Andy.

Could you not disable keyless entry and then you don’t have to worry?

i've disabled mine and can sleep peacefully now

I have ordered another one of a different brand. I put a good bunch of keys inside the pouch and maybe it is wearing away a metallic coat.

The other thing to watch out for is that in some of them only one side of the Faraday mesh liner is sewn to the wallet and it is very easy to slip the keys between the mesh and the plastic wallet. The pouches I bought off Amazon it is very easy to think you you have put it in correctly but in fact you haven’t actually put it inside the mesh part of the pouch.

Third (different syle) has now failed.

I had now tried 3 different pouches in 8 months and they have all failed. With the latest pouch I have only put the car key in it rather than the full bunch of keys.

Ditto...I use pouch and it still works...but disabled keyless entry too...just in case

Hi I’m not sure how a pouch can fail, the pouch has a material woven into it to stop the signal getting out and in
This won’t fail I think what you mean is damaged due to wear

I would try to get a more robust pouch that you won’t damage as easily

How do you disable keyless entry ?

If you disable keyless then you have to use the remote’s buttons. When you use the remote’s buttons you are transmitting a signal that can be intercepted and recorded for playback, thus opening your car. I have a friend who lost their Q5 in this manner from a multi-storey car park. So disabling-keyless approach may or may not present a better risk profile than using keyless depending on your circumstances and your luck. I am referring to prior to MY18, because from then on I understand JLR security got a bit more sexy.

I have not yet had a pouch fail myself. When at home a metal biscuit tin or aluminium foil is an alternative to a manufactured pouch. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I use a little tin to keep my keys in. In addition, it's no where near the front door. Kev

If you use a metal box (as I do) make sure there are no holes/gaps whatsoever. I initially bought a key safe but because of the tiny gaps around the hinge it didn’t work. A cheap metal tin with a tight fitting lid works a treat and although in have a 2019MY car with the more advanced security, I still keep the keys in the box at all times when I’m not driving it.
