Hi all,
I am having a major problem. I’m now travelling around the world with my dog and we stopped at my parents for a few weeks. Unfortunately, the battery died and I cannot find the emergency/mechanical key (which is inside the key fob). It broke away from the original key long time ago under the same circumstances when I tried opening the door but I pushed the key a bit too hard in the wrong direction. I cannot find it anywhere and I can’t get into the car. I still have both keys with me, it’s just that the car wouldn’t react to them because the battery died.

Please note, I am not in the U.K. right now.

Probably a stupid question but you say you have both keys - is there an emergency key in your second key fob??

Probably another stupid question - do you have any breakdown cover eg Land Rover Assist, AA etc??

If all else fails call a garage.....

It’s a real pain but you could remove the undertray and connect jump leads from a spare battery to earth and the positive on the starter if you can get to it. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Not sure about yours, but on my07 (and many other vehicles) you can from underneath connect to alternator or starter and frame to get battery charged in lack of right tow bar electrics.

edit: BP beat me to it, think you can get to alternator without tray off, maybe just with right front wheel off, I could on my07. Not easy though...
But as said mine isn't 100% same engine .

You can on mine get to the alternator positive without taking wheel off, you need jacking up and please remember safety first, jack stand or something preventing personal injury if jack fails.
You likely have to take off the right plastic splash shield for easier access, fairly easy.

If it was me I would attempt to charge battery on vehicle, connecting other batteries in tight spots not ideal.

And get rid of any silly security wheel nut, nowadays they prefer to take whole car

Just reread you're not mech minded, isn't there a close by garage with call out there can help? where are you? shouldn't be a secret in an emergency.

The only issue with using a battery charger is that occasionally you can’t get the juice in quick enough for a very flat battery and the alarm will start to sound. Then you can’t stop it until you get enough in there to unlock the door, pop the bonnet and remove the battery terminal. At least a pair of jump leads connected to the car and a spare battery at a distance keeps you away from the vehicle should something go wrong.

You’ll have to forgive my directness but you should really carry out some basic repairs such as new keys/blades, locking wheel nut key etc. And anything else as it’s these relatively inexpensive items that can end up being very expensive in the long run. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

especially when travelling around the world in a LR, one should be a little prepared.

And lets be honest - a" little" prepared in a land rover is a lot more prepared than any other vehicle 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Guys, take it easy. Battery went flat and I just lost they manual key. Otherwise I’m super prepared. My dog has plenty of food with us
