Also just read another post which has confused me a little, is it the TDV6 or SDV6 which is known for lunching its crankshaft?

Ah ok that’s excellent thank you, I had in my head the TDV6 was a different beast to the SDV6 and it was one that was more prone to consuming its crankshaft than the other.

That's right. Both timing belts, plus the aux belt should be changed. However, it's not unheard of for only the front belts to be changed because the rear belt is a bit of a pain for the inexperienced.
