Fixed - slight movement in driver's seat base

After 6-7 months of ownership of my MY2013 L320 I was loving the car. However, there was the occasional, barely detectible minor movement in the driver's seat cushion. This was mainly noticeable when accelerating or deceleration - but only every few minutes. It was just that annoying niggle stopping the perfect ride from an L320 that’s completed just over 40,000 miles.

Checking this forum there has been discussion about members suffering the same niggling seat cushion movement - often caused by 2-3 mm of movement in the seat frame. However, my seat frame was completely secure. It had to be something else.

Fortunately, several years ago I was introduced to a very good auto trimmer not very far away from me in Milton Keynes. Previously, this auto trimmer had fixed an uncomfortable seat in my 4 year old/ 40,000 mile Mercedes CLK500. Let’s just say I’m fussy about a seat must be perfect for comfort and road holding ….

Anyway, three weeks ago I once again visited Mark Teske of Auto Trim at Little Horwood in Milton Keynes (http://www.autotrimmer.co.uk). Mark kept my car for the day and took the driver’s seat base apart. He added extra padding to the base, built up again the side bolster nearest the driver’s door and stuck the leather to the seat foam with specialist extra strong adhesive. It was this last process that would according to Mark stop the small but noticeable movement between the seat leather cover and the seat foam.

After three weeks I can report there is no more movement that was previously so annoying. The building up of the side bolster has helped a little both in comfort and in the look of the seat. The extra layer of padding between the original seat cushion and leather cover has added to the sumptuous pillow feeling in my supercharged arm chair. …….And the cost - an absolute bargain! Mark is a top guy and if anyone else here has either a tired seat or that niggling movement in the foam seat base then he’s the man to see. Just contact him well in advance of your visit and be prepared to leave your car for the day as he’s a busy man.

Great if it fixes the problem, however there is also a know issue with the electric seat mechanism, that can cause the same thing. Apparently the mechanism can move by a millimetre or two under acceleration or braking. The solution is to remove the seat base, and adjust one side of the winder. See here ...

I have the same thing with my 2019 SVR, body weight transfer or my legs pushing into the cushion seems to make the cushion move with a slight clunk, so being an SVR with less padding in the seats Im assuming it’s the same issue, but that said I have felt it when braking hard so maybe it’s both, its is a Range Rover after all Laughing
