Engine help 2010 sport 3.0 tdv6 lots of questions

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2nd sport, this is a 2010 tdv6 3.0, with one issue, the engine is in a million pieces in the boot 😄

From the looks of it there has been an injector issue and a dropped valve which has melted one of the pistons.

My questions are:

Would it make financial sense to have this engine fixed and rebuilt and does anyone know anywhere that could build a 306dt engine that has been completely stripped with boxes of bolts etc. And what should I be looking to pay for a rebuild

If not where can I get a good used engine (would prefer not to be a recon as I’ve heard stories about cheap parts etc)

How much should I be looking at for fitting a used engine and putting the car back together (bearing in mind it’s already had the engine removed etc)

Has anyone ever fitted the jaguar 306dt engine and how different is it/what needs transferring over from the Land Rover lump?

Also does anyone know how to put the car into neutral with no power etc and also is it possible to release the boot manually?

Thanks!

Usual advise is to put a replacement landrover engine in. 2 year warranty. About £7K. ish + fitting.

THe fact it is in pieces doesn't help.

Or talk to oval autos who should be able to do it cheaper

Give Joe at Oval Autos a call. He is also a forum sponsor on here and the disco forum. A few of us have had rebuilds done by him now on the 3.0 TDV6.

Thanks, I have sent a message to Oval following the 2 recommendations.

I had a company offer to fit a recon engine for £4K but I don’t want a recon engine unless it’s from a reputable place as I’ve heard the horror stories!

I completely agree with you. As I mention in my thread, there are a lot of dodgy places around. Only go with someone you have confidence in and do not rush into it. Research is key. Kev

It seems you did plenty of research for me lol

You are only down the road from me and also have a stornoway 2010 3.0 tdv6

How long ago was your engine done and I assume still all good?

I had my engine done in April so just over 4 months ago. I've put about 5,000 miles on it in that time and it's still running well. In terms of longevity, obviously it's still early days.

Oh yes, I see you are in Bournemouth. I couldn't see your location earlier because I was on my phone. You're more than welcome to come and have a look and listen to my engine before you make your mind up. Just drop me a PM. Kev
