United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Lux Stornoway Grey
Four Months of Sport Ownership

Good Morning everyone.
I am a relatively new owner of a 2011 RRS. I have owned her for about 4 months and thought i would come out of the closet and announce i am in love. I have defected away from Volvo after many years and i already know i will not return. I have been reading your forum almost daily and i must admit it has been a roller coaster. Somewhat stupidly i did not research anything prior to buying her and so from day one when i started to read all of the possible problems i have been holding my breath every time i start her up. I have now moved away from the 'what have i done' feeling and am now in the 'well, if i go easy on her she may well be ok' mood. I still hold my breath and wait for the dash to clear and still listen for all the potential warning noises but hey, if this is what it takes to feel great driving a car then bring it on. Time will tell if i have been lucky. She looks genuine and came with full LRSH so i am reassured somewhat. I can see from the posts everyone is very friendly on this forum and so now i am outed i will tentatively dip my toe occasionally with an update on ownership, both good and bad. Thanks for a lovely forum.
Phil

Welcome to the forum Phil. You are correct, there is a love about these vehicles that is not there with other marques. They are incredible machines but very complex and therefore greater potential for complex (and expensive) problems. This statement is not unique to modern Land Rovers.

The problem with forums is that people usually post about issues they are experiencing in order to get help and this can give a false impression of reliability. It's rare for people to hop onto a forum and promote that their vehicle has no problems. There are some members like me who have had catastrophic engine failures but the majority have not.

Correctly maintained with quality parts and fluids and replacing things as they wear out will ensure you maximise the opportunity for happy motoring.

Good luck with your Sport! Kev

Just to reinforce what Kev said, I am on my fifth LR and never had a serious problem - fingers crossed.

To me, problems arise because they are not serviced and looked after properly and main dealers are rubbish. I service ahead of the schedule, do most of it myself, change the oil and filter every 6000 miles and use an independent LR garage for things that are beyond my capability.

BUT, if they go wrong they can be a bit expensive so make sure you have a good warranty.

Your biggest problem is that having owned one there is nowhere else to go.

England 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Fuji White

I’ve had one fault in 18 months with my car which cost £250 for the part and £8 for some extra parts to install. If I’d gone to a dealer or under it would have cost £1200. If I know something’s on it’s way out, I can pick up genuine LR parts quite cheap. I’ve just done my rear brake discs, cost £54 a pair from LR dealer (normally £120 each) including delivery so I spent the savings on some calliper paint and a set of EBC red stuff pads. I also picked up a genuine LR rear wheel baring for £8 with £4 delivery, a brand new Autobiography drivers seat back cover for £30 (about £800 normally).

Plenty of bargains out there if you have time to buy when available before you really need it. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)
2012 5.0 SC AB. Sadly written off by a campervan

It's been said many times, the likes of these forums you will always find out about problems. Big Cry You seldom find people posting how good the car is. Very Happy

I have had more than my share of Land Rovers, and to be honest I have loved them all. I have not had any real problems, however I normally move my cars on when the have circa 50K miles on the clock or are out of Warranty/Manufacturers Extended Warranty.

I think that a lot of the dealers are Censored , & JLR Customer Services leaves an awful lot to be desired.

Will I buy another JLR vehicle Question I would buy another tomorrow....if I had the money.
Syd In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

I have had a 2011 model year RRS from new (November 2010). Less than 39k miles, but they’ve all been very enjoyable. It’s never let me down but has required some repairs at service and MOT time. I used LR servicing for first 4 years then switched to specialists. I don’t give reliability a seconds thought, although I do have a warranty. If you want a warranty my recommendation is Warranty Direct. Not necessarily cheap, but if it’s peace of mind you’re after then worthwhile. I like WD because they cover wear and tear.

It doesn’t feel cheap to keep on the road but I don’t mind paying a premium for the experience. I’m buying a new one this year (I may defect to a fatty). I offered to my wife we try the Q8, Q7, GLE, GLS, Cayenne, XC90, X5 and X7 “just in case”. These suggestions were politely but robustly declined! It’s either Land Rover or Uber+Sixt... so Land Rover it is, then. Thumbs Up

Welcome to the forum and be sure to ask anything anytime, there’s an extraordinary knowledge pool here. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

2012 SDV6, 85k miles on the clock. Clean MOT pass yesterday. Thumbs Up

Needs lower front arms but that is expected at that mileage.

People need to remember that all SUVs do badly in the reliability/satisfaction stakes because they are more complicated than standard cars. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
