Welcome to the forum Phil. You are correct, there is a love about these vehicles that is not there with other marques. They are incredible machines but very complex and therefore greater potential for complex (and expensive) problems. This statement is not unique to modern Land Rovers.

Just to reinforce what Kev said, I am on my fifth LR and never had a serious problem - fingers crossed.

I’ve had one fault in 18 months with my car which cost £250 for the part and £8 for some extra parts to install. If I’d gone to a dealer or under it would have cost £1200. If I know something’s on it’s way out, I can pick up genuine LR parts quite cheap. I’ve just done my rear brake discs, cost £54 a pair from LR dealer (normally £120 each) including delivery so I spent the savings on some calliper paint and a set of EBC red stuff pads. I also picked up a genuine LR rear wheel baring for £8 with £4 delivery, a brand new Autobiography drivers seat back cover for £30 (about £800 normally).

It's been said many times, the likes of these forums you will always find out about problems. You seldom find people posting how good the car is.

I have had a 2011 model year RRS from new (November 2010). Less than 39k miles, but they’ve all been very enjoyable. It’s never let me down but has required some repairs at service and MOT time. I used LR servicing for first 4 years then switched to specialists. I don’t give reliability a seconds thought, although I do have a warranty. If you want a warranty my recommendation is Warranty Direct. Not necessarily cheap, but if it’s peace of mind you’re after then worthwhile. I like WD because they cover wear and tear.
