Question about rear caliper pins

Hello everyone,

While changing my pads and rotors today I made the foolish mistake of removing the rear caliper pins without taking note of which pin goes where.

For the 2010 RRS SC one of the rear slider pins have a black metal sleeve on the end opposite the head. Each side has only one such pin and my question is: Does anyone know if this slider pin goes on top or on the bottom? I added the best pic I could find of these pins. Hoping someone knows.

Cheers and thanks

Gentlemen,

I beg the Range Rover guru gods to have a look at my post and reconsider a response. In other words...

Just had a quick trawl on some parts websites, I think the two pins should be the same! 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

Not sure about that... It could be that this requirement is exclusive to the 2010+ Range Rover Sport Supercharged models.

I've also been creeping as many sites as I can to get pics and vids and none of them are 100% clear about which one goes where. It's a Mysteryyyyyyyy lol.

Hmmm, I did look at the 2010+ ones...

Could be that the photos on the parts websites are pictorial reference only! 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

It's weird because on the rear left side the pins were the same while the right side has the one pin with the sleeve. I'm thinking it *must* be like this because of the OEM package sold by Land Rover.

Had a read of the Workshop Manual. and it does specifically say make a note of the guide pin orientation prior to removal, and to make sure the are re-fitted in the correct orientation. Which is great except it doesn't actually show a illustration or description of the pin's if they are different and which way round they go.

Sorry but not much help really I know.

Cheers
Col

Have a look here
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/d4-calliper...der%2Bpins

I am planning a front disc and pad change as I have a bit of judder when braking from 60/70mph and want to ensure the pins are moving freely.
How are the slider pins removed please (pics would really help).

OK so for future reference I nabbed the pic and confirmed. The Slider pin with the black end on it goes on the bottom.

To quote, it says; "Make sure that the plain slide pin is installed to the upper part of the caliper and the bushed slide pin is installed to the lower part (Check the slide pins for correct operation)"

I decided to paint my caliper and carrier yesterday. The top pin was the bushed one and after remembering this thread I checked and I thought it must have previously assembled incorrectly. So I set to assembling with the bushed pin at the bottom, and it jammed up. I managed to get it out in the vice and fit back in the original position and it fits perfectly. I’m thinking the left and right carriers are the same for both sides so the bushed pin is on the bottom when fitted to the left and top when on the right. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

That illustration and procedure is for a vehicle with standard Front Brakes, as I said previous the Workshop Manual for the Rears does specifically say make a note of the guide pin orientation prior to removal, and to make sure the are re-fitted in the correct orientation. Which is great except it doesn't actually show a illustration or description of the different pin's and which is the lower pin and which is the upper pin.
