Sat nav update advice

Hello all
I have the update usb for my 2012 RRS.
Obviously I can drive round for 2.5 hours while it updates, but I have a constant voltage feature on my CTEK charger, designed for performing updates.
If I update without the engine running and the CTEK connected,
I will need the ignition on, but will it time out of the key is not in the car?
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Just turned on the ignition and left the car without the key, it soon turned everything off. don't want this to happen mid update, and not sure if the system will keep itself awake. So I will have to see how long it will stay awake with the key in. MY12 RRS HSE

Just an update,
Tried leaving it with the ignition on, key inside, and the 4x4 screen visible
The dash stayed on, all interior display illumination stayed on, but the ventilation and nav screen went to sleep.
If I ran the update would it still go to sleep?, If so, does anyone know how to prevent it going to sleep. MY12 RRS HSE

I'm not sure it does, there are warnings not to turn off the ignition. Apparently it stuffs the satnav and phone.
There must be a way of updating without the engine running for 2.5 hours MY12 RRS HSE

The entertainment system is designed to Shutt off after xx minutes (can’t remember the exact length of time). It is also designed to enter low power mode when the engine is not running. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Sets my mind at ease a bit, as quite a few stories of the sat nav completely conking after update. MY12 RRS HSE

You are lucky having a USB stick driven system.
What about 2010/2011 cars with a hardisk? You need JLR diagnostic equipment for a navigation upgrade.
JLR said that they need to let the engine run idle for 5 hours ! That seems rediculeous, particularly with an eye to the DPF .
Does somebody (Col?) has a suggestion i.c. a better plan? RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux

Got my USB from the HERE website and after it being replaced because it froze, the car is without sat nav, and telephone.

Looks like a new unit as HERE will not cough up, even thought the map was attempted by Land Rover Dealers as well under instructions from the USB provider at my expense for 4 days.

Last September I was advised the newest maps get released in May, although not usually sold via Landrover until September October time. So might be worth holding on a couple of weeks if you can, to get the 2019/20 map. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

After 2hours 50minutes the update finally completed. I kept it running for the full duration to ensure there were no errors.
Hopefully my maps should represent the roads I drive on. MY12 RRS HSE
