I have similar feelings about my MY16 which I bought nearly 1 year ago - coming up for another service - can't stop smiling each time I drive it....one more year left of the dealer warranty - not sure if this can be further extended. Plan to keep it for another year but struggling to find an alternative to change to...

This is the same for me its what would be the replacement, I love the SVR but its way out of my price range. The F pace doesn't look as well built or nice and like I said the GLE is still diesel plus the interior on the older ones aren't great.

Is your “local garage” a Land Rover dealership or an LR Independent Specialist garage? If it is just a general local fixer garage then I would highly recommend a local LR Specialist, often they are Land Rover trained guys and are a huge amount more experienced than most main dealer mechanics who are only any use for decoding the fault finder computer rather than fixing the problem. By the sound of it your car wasn’t purchased from either a dealership or a Land Rover Specialist as if it were approved used there wouldn’t be any RAC 3 year warranty there would be Land Rover’s own 2 year extendable warranty and those issues would have been fixed before putting the car on the forecourt........

If this is the Land Rover approved warranty (sometimes called extended warranty) then you can extend it up to 10 years or 100,000 miles which ever comes first. You get the Land Rover Extended Warranty which is provided by a third party and is usually pretty comprehensive, although not the cheapest on the market. The way to avoid the DPF issue is to drive the vehicle "properly". Get out on the open road and drive it. Failing that, at least go out on a motorway/dual carriageway and give it a good run at 70mph (ahem!) to get the exhaust hot.

Your assumptions are correct the car wasn't from LR, the finance deal was better elsewhere. I use a specialist but not a LR one I know that sounds odd but its someone I've used for years and trust and has contacts at most manufactures. Trust is a major thing for me with garages.

Yea, this is my plan I was thinking every two weeks giving it a 20-30min blast in sports mode. I was thinking weekly but two weeks might be enough? I do mixed driving but I guess there could be a week where its mostly town 40mph ish driving. |

A quick side note I forgot to add is the car has a 5 year service pack so all work apart from the dpf has been done by LR |

As said above, try giving it some stick, you'll be amazed how much better the engine will feel and respond if you make them work hard and get hot. I've had two 3.0 V6 diesels, a 4.4 V8 diesel and not once have I had a DPF issue. Try a couple of traffic light standing starts in Sport and keeping the engine working. Might cost an extra thimble of petrol but much cheaper than a LR invoice. |

Bit of a update, the compressor is fixed as it went pop which was causing the issue all warranty paid luckily.

Yes, turning off the auto stop/start will help - it will avoid the possibility of the DPF being part way through performing a regen when the engine gets stopped. This is one of the causes of oil dilution with unburned fuel that is used to create the heat for the regen 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Take for a long motorway drive - 70mph for a couple of hours or more to give it a chance to complete a full regen cycle. I never had any DPF problems with either my 2011 Evoque 2.2SD4 or my last RRS SDv6 but due to an unsuccessful software upgrade on my 2n 2.2 Evoque I had lots after it was 9 months old ........... JLR told me it was thecway I was driving the car but I told it cannot be as up to the gearbox software upgrade I had had no issues, afterwards a new DPF Sensor about every 10 days......... they couldn’t roll back the software and in the end bought the car back from me and withdrew the software update for further testing....... none of my cars ever gets used in commuter type driving, my trips to town being outside commuter times and anyway I hav a 16 miles drive in fast A roads to get to town from the village I live in so the car was well warmed up and no stop/start intervention until I got to town. I also never suffered the oil dilution problem in the RRS 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I’m going to plan a weekly blast on a A road, a little crazy I’ve never had this issue and I’ve owned diesels for the last ten years. The RRS is meant to be a utility vehicle but can’t handle short journeys haha a little crazy but is what it is with emission rulings cribtrolling I guess. |
