United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey
2010 TDV8 - my first RRS

Finally collected my first RRS - 2010 TDV8 - with a 630 mile run to get it home from down South.

Ran like a dream and even managed to collect an a set of 19" snowflakes en route (ready for a set of snow tyres later in the year!).

It's in great shape, a 3 owner vehicle, only 57,000 miles from new - so far very happy with what I got for £12K.

My 4x4 path to RRS has been via a Series 1 around a farm as a kid, a Disco in '95, and a Cayenne 4.5S before a spell in "normal" cars.

A few pics...

If you're going to keep it, get the gearbox oil flushed. It's a good mileage to do it. Also, check the battery. The TDV8 can be hard on batteries and alternators.

Otherwise, enjoy the best RRS - the TDV8. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I do miss my old TDV8, that's for sure. The SDV6 doesn't have the go or the exhaust noise of the older engine (even though the on-paper figures are quite close, the driving experience is very different).

The 8-speed gearbox is awful - it's lovely and smooth in use, don't get me wrong, but it's so recalcitrant and always in the wrong gear, leading to a couple of "oh Censored " moments where there was no response to the throttle pedal as the gear box was in 4th or 5th at walking pace. Interestingly, I noted this issue of being in the wrong gear mentioned in one of the reviews when it was launched. Another one of those LR issues, I guess.

The interior is "nicer" although I realise that the original interior is more practical in some ways. I don't understand perforated leather on the seats - solid leather is much more practical and easy to wipe if something drops on it.

In isolation, the SDV6 is lovely, it's just that I was spoiled by having the better engine first. Rolling with laughter

Having seen the OP's purchase for not much money, I'm tempted to WBAC mine and buy another TDV8! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Also I would recommend changing oil & oil filter every 10k or even less if you can do it yourself for what it cost to avoid turbos going on these tdv8’s Andy.

Thanks. I'm planning a trip down to Dundee to visit family and the new V&A so I was thinking I would book it into Disco Mikeys for a flush, etc.

Good reminder thanks. Yes, I plan to do myself. I did remember to allow a spell on tickover every time I stopped on my way up the road. Of course there's no way of knowing how it has been treated up until now but every little helps I suppose. Start as I mean to go on and all that!

I think it's more important to let the engine idle for a minute or two before turning it off. That way the hot bits can spin down and cool down properly and the oil in the turbo drains doesn't turn to gloop. Turning off with red hot turbos will Censored them up much more than anything else. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
