I assume you have hinged the seat cushion forward first.

You’ll find at the back of the seat cushion (the bum bit) a material lug that you can grab and pull the seat base up and over into the footwell, then bring the backs down. Sometimes the lug gets tucked away out of sight but you should feel it.

Taking the rear headrests off helps with getting the seat back down flat too Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

You'll probably find that the tabs for pulling up the seat bases have disappeared behind the seats, you'll have to fish for them,,, always happens on mine. Lower the headrests as far as they'll go. 2010 RRS, TDV8

I've looped a long plastic cable tie around each of the seat tags. You can hide them behind the seat but it's a hell of a lot easier to pull them out when you need them. Barrie.
