The electronic traction/stability control often uses the rear brakes and can accelerate the pad wear. It might be coming on too soon/aggressively - get it checked.

I also had this happen on a Jag (XK). At the time, the dealer told me it was probably due to pad wear caused by the auto handbrake release feature. Don’t know if that was true but I now generally try to remember to release the electric handbrake manually rather than just driving away. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

Additional rear pad wear comes from their being used for "anti dive" around town - uses the rears very hard in

That makes sense, Wilf. When I had the problem, the car was doing a lot of mileage in slow moving heavy traffic every day. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

I've never had a car that has needed rear brake pads before the front.

it is not uncommon in jags. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I suspect the dealer is being very cautious, as is their way. If the pads look like they may wear down before the next service (plus a margin for error) they will recommend replacement. I suppose the flip side is that you would justifiably complain if the warning light came on, or the pads went metal to metal, after they had serviced it.

The rear pads apparently measured 3mm, do you need a diagnostic machine to wind the callipers back? 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR arrived but now rejected!
