That is good news, but the 2019 cars will have selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to reduce emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). The regenerative fluid (Urea solution) is to provide NOx reduction on the SCR catalyst. All of that is to provide Euro 6 compliance. It is nothing to do with the DPF, which is there to capture particulate matter (part of the compliance strategy for Euro 5 and 6). The DPF will be upstream of the SCR cat and uses a catalytic coating to provide a regen when the substrate temperature is sufficient. The temperature is raised, in response to increasing backpressure from the soot loading, by hydro-carbon injection. That very grand title means injecting fuel at the bottom of the power stroke of the engine so that it goes up the exhaust and combusts on the front of the DPF substrate. It is some of that fuel, that also finds it`s way past the rings to dilute the lubricating oil. I bet you can`t guess what I do for a living...
The simplest cure is to forget the silly extended drain servicing programme and change the oil and filter at 6,000 miles like we used to 20 years ago. Oh but that would ruin the marketing ploy and give work back to the independent garage sector wouldn`t it?
I had my MY16 Serviced beginning of November and do 40 mile round trip to work on fast roads. Oil service light has been plummeting at a rate of 2 miles/ mile travelled. Yesterday did a 400 mile round trip, 98% of which was motorway and given the roads were quiet, didn't hang about. Checked the service miles to next oil service before I left which showed 13500. Checked again on completion of journey, showed 13550. Go figure? |

Mine has had to be reset twice since it was serviced in August as the miles have been dropping like a stone. Each time it’s had different software updates and LR insist that the oil is fine. Watch this space to see if the second update (only done two days ago), has worked.

I've had x2 oil changes paid for under their JLRP00100. Despite their flow chart which if I recall correctly after 2, they should advise you re your driving style, I fully expect to have another prior to the warranty expiring.

Sounds like unscrupulous dealers to me, there is no way a software update can rectify the design issues of the DPF/SCRF being laced in a position where it cannot get sufficient heat to perform a passive regeneration.

Interesting, did you get the Amber warning before it went to Red?

No Amber before. Think the DPF is related to another issue that stopped the regen process. Noticed a loss in power before the RED DPF. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW. |
