So today my quest to find even a semi nice example has taken me for a day out to Leicester from Essex by train. The dealer assured me on the phone that it was a clean, very good condition example with no accident damage. I left Southend on 08:15 train in to London then underground to St Pancreas, on to Leicester via overground about three hour journey in total. I was collected at Leicester station in what can only be described as a jollopy masked as a Ford Focus and alarm bells started ringing. The driver was a nice guy ex navy who said they were road testing the Focus that had just been part ex’d. The clutch was falling out the CV joints were rattling and the suspension was still on their forecourt I should think? As we pulled in to the Arthur Daily forecourt my heart sunk, I could see a very poor example of an RRS which was sporting the same registration as the one that is come to look at... The front bumper was scratched to and where it wasn’t scratched it had been touched in with what looked like a B&Q lambs wool paint roller! Every panel was scratched the rear bumper had filler falling out of it, the rear off side wheel was towing in a lot! Inside the boot the carpet was covered in a while powder? Possibly P38 but I wasn’t brave enough to sniff it. The fumes from a paint shop inside the car was enough to get me high with more than two sniffs! I’d possibly be better off mentioning that the front off side Tyre was ok and that was about the only thing that was! So a trip home on the train for me! I’m beginning to wonder if there are any nice examples still out there for sale in the colour I’m looking for - black? Cheers Laurence.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience,,I’ve done it myself traveled all over the UK when buying vehicles only to arrive & they have been sheds,I’ve sold vehicles to people on the fone & explained exactly how they are & sold to them when they came to view,,I sold my 2002 ffrr to a guy over on the west coast & he never even viewed the car he sent someone to collect with a transporter & when he got the car he called to say how happy he was & it’s better condition than he expected it to be being 6 years old,but only 36k on clock,,when I told him I’d replaced it with a rrs tdv8 he asked me to give him first refusal when I came to sell it. Andy.

I obviously need to buy one from you Andy....
I had a guy buy my last S/C RRS come over from South Africa, took it back with him. He was so pleased with it that he paid me an extra £1,000 for the spare set of wheels that were advertised with the car! Either that or he didn't read the advert properly... Either way we were both very happy with the sale...

I've just stumbled across a low milage 2013 plate with FMDSH being sold by a main dealer in the right colour combo... ! Waiting for a call back and pictures! They will only give six months warranty with it as too old to give the 2yr used car warranty (I think they normally give) but at least it will have gone through the JLR workshops that's got to mean something..... right? Cheers Laurence.

You could do with someone closer to the dealer off here to probably go have a look at it unless it’s close to you.

What do we think of the price of this one? I've been in talks with the guy he says it's in lovely condition but he would he's trying to sell it... Personally I think it's 2K over priced being a 12 plate. He wants £25,478 for it with 2yr warranty which I know I don't have to buy. All said and done it has what I want in terms of colour and extras

I honestly couldn't make this next part up.... Three weeks ago somebody contacted me on here and said that they were selling there black RRS when they were returning from holiday in two week time. They have just returned off holiday and emailed me to say that they have decided not to sell it yet....

I've decided that maybe it isn't the car for me now....! I'm sticking with my Defender for now to save myself train fare, time hassel...  Cheers Laurence.
