5.0sc is the one to have the least problems with,if you are wanting diesel I would go the the sdv8.

think of it this way: rather stretch your budget and get an SDV8 than get an SDV6 and then face a 10-15K repair bill when the crank breaks and LR walks away from any responsibility. --

What am I missing? My budget is approx £15,000 and cheapest SDV8 around £35,000.. |

With that budget it would be the L320 TDv8 not an SDv8 as the TD was from 2007MY to 2010MY - there were some TDv8 2010 facelifted models but not many. TDv8 have their issues too - mostly turbo related and due to lack of care/maintenance by previous owners. TDv8 is a great car though if you can find a good one, they came only in HSE spec or HST with lots of toys on them that can also go wrong. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks mate. If the diesels are all potentially ticking time bombs for crankshaft issues etc then I will look at petrol. 4.2 or 5.0.. If I was going to take a chance on a diesel it would be the SD v6 for the newer interior. |

The diesels aren't all crankshaft time bombs, the TDV8 is a solid motor. I sold mine with 174k miles on it and it's still going as I bump in to the new owner in the pub now and then. And the newer interior can be had with a TDV8 lump up front.

What’s this WHEN business? It’s happened but it’s rare, very rare; however, when someone suffers the problem a lot of them appear of here for help and a bit of advice. That’s why when you read any forum you come to the conclusion that the product is a load of trouble - then you own 5 of them with no issues. I do everything I can to mitigate problems by regular servicing etc, mostly oil because of oil dilution that affects loads of cars with a DPF, but I don’t lose sleep over it and neither should anyone else. |

Im lucky as im on my 6th sport & only had 2 minor issues, one being the park brake on my08 TDV8 & a suspension pump issue on my12 red edition both fixed under approved warranty,,BUT & a BIG but when I sold my14 AB SDV6 within 2 weeks of the new owner having it the crankshaft failed & LR Approved warranty wouldn't cover the cost of repair £18,500 plus vat for it fixing.

Dont think it would make as much press if the engines were cheaper it's the fact as tyrefitter says upwards of £20,000 to have it repaired is what is hard to swallow |

Would crankshaft issues be covered by warranty? RAC, warrantywise etc |
