2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Fuji White

Auto wiper issue

Hi guys,

Had a new screen fitted a couple of weeks ago, it's a Range Rover original screen.
Noticed today that if I have the wipers in the auto position, when I start the car, it does a sweep even though the screen is clear. Never used to do that?

Any ideas.

don't they do that if dew is on the screen in the morning. and frost! which is rather a problem!

Tonight it's varnish and the screen was totally clear but still did it 🤔

Don't you have to have everything recalibrated with a new screen (auto wipers, emergency braking, etc.)? RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

I thought that was for if you have cameras for lane departure. Last time they changed the screen, it worked fine

Would appear sensor is self calibrating when first powered up.

The rain sensor must be re-authorized to a new windscreen, if fitted, or if transferred to another vehicle, the new
rain sensor assembly will automatically re-initialize when powered-up for the first time. In order for this to occur
successfully, it must be fitted and connected to the windscreen bracket.

Personally always switch auto off in Winter that way if blades frozen or stuck to screen it don't damage blades or possibly loosen arm on spline.

Hi Col,

Does that mean there is an issue with the fitment then as if it's auto calibrated, it's not calibrating correctly?

Hi, not sure on that one as that is just an extract from workshop manual, is it possible they damaged the sensor when removing it from old screen in anyway, may sound stupid but just a thought is there anything on the screen in front of sensor causing it, also does the light sensor work as believe that is integral in the same sensor.

Hi Col,

From memory the light sensor is under the mirror or that might be the main beam assist. I cleaned the screen on the outside yesterday but still did it. I was wondering if something like a finger print on the sensor or if the screen wasn't clean on the inside where the sensor is. Does the manual say how to remove / refit sensor?

L494 has a Winter park setting that will stop the wipers on top of the front screen heater element and is also the setting to use to avoid paintwork damage on the edge of the bonnet when lifting the wiper arms for replacing wiper blades. The problem with the winter park position is if you drive off with it set the wipers don’t park out at the bottom of the screen - something I would have thought is not out of the bounds of a technical cure - a small controller that basically checks that if Car is moving the wipers will drop to the normal parked position and return to the Winter park position when you switch off the engine. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
