I think I would have the Jag version over the LR version of this car - the Jag looks better as the Velar just looks a bit weird. The F Pace looks more proportioned and I think is a bit cheaper. 07MY RRS TDV6

That’s probably true Tim,they are just registering them to get the figures up,I see plenty of RRS’s on the road everyday but in the last month I’ve only seen one Velar. True on both accounts. When I swapped from RRS to F-Pace I priced up the difference on the same spec. The F-Pace was £11,000 cheaper, plus Jaguar gave me £1,000 more on the trade in on my RRS over Land Rover (same dealership)! I too prefer the style of the F-Pace to the Velar which looks like a mutant version of the RRS to me! The F-Pace looks like a much better buy, Jock. Two questions - do you miss the air suspension and how do you find the 300PS petrol engine after your diesel RRS? Among other things, I am currently considering either a petrol F-Pace or a petrol Velar to replace my SDV6 RRS next year. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

I saw a Velar on the road yesterday and one parked up on a street today. Very rare to have two sightings two days in a row around here.

Fkarim's last paragraph sums it up neatly for me. |

Reading in the latest motoring press it looks like JLR could also be about to over price the forthcoming Defender replacement rumoured to start at £40,000 - way too high by about £20,000 for what is supposed to be a basic farm utility vehicle..........but loved by wealthy Chelsea residents. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've seen a fair few about so I would think selling. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Hi PIG88, to answer your questions - yes, I do miss the air suspension - but not £12,000 worth of miss! The 300PS petrol engine in the F-Pace is a beast. It may only be 2.0 litre but is only 6 h.p. less than the RRS which is 400 lbs heavier than the F-Pace. The acceleration is great and very smooth through the whole rev range. The torque is adequate, even from low revs up to 5,500 rpm. However, there is an economy price to pay. The best I have managed so far (driving like an 80 year old granny) was 27mpg. I have done nearly 2,000 miles in the car now and am averaging 22 mpg. It is difficult to compare an RRS to an F-Pace, they are very different vehicles. The RRS was a go anywhere, mud plugging 4X4 that was well appointed and very comfortable. The F-Pace has definitely put the Sport in "sport utility vehicle", for me anyway!! My understanding is that JLR are definitely disappointed with the Velar numbers. They had expected it to sell like hot-cakes and be the new evoke for them, but that’s just not happening. As others have said, it’s the price point that’s the issue. Just too close to the RRS. They will presumably want to fix, but I can imagine how...

Both Auto-Express and Autocar this week have a series of the same ”spy” shots of the next Defender which make it look like a Disco3 with all the disguises on it. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for that update, Jock. I am definitely going to take a good look at the F-Pace! Re the Defender - there are lots of rumours around now, including that there will be a PHEV version. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic Gone: 2016 SDV6 HSE 2012 SDV6 SE |
