I've called the garage today - they don't sound too happy about it but have agreed to take it in again to have a look. Considering I've spent close to £2.5k with them in the past month on the big 10yr service/MOT and subsequent work, I would have thought they'd have been more keen to sort it?!

They also mentioned on the phone that there was a note on the job-sheet about it tearing and repeated that it's just a strip of rubber. Grrrrrr!

As I said they have ripped part of the seal away, it should locate in a groove in filler neck and form a nice tight seal, it is not possible to buy the seal seperate you or they will need to replace the complete part LR014044 which I posted a picture of. If they had done the job correctly they would not have torn it in the first place.

Dropped my RRS in to the garage today to get the work done/looked at. Was immediately greeted with being told the rubber was old and that these rubber bits perish as they get old and get regularly covered in diesel, so it just split as they were putting it back over the metal filler neck etc. etc.
That's quite likely true, but wouldn't you expect it to be sorted regardless before being handed back to a customer?
I mean - how am I to know whether it's just one of those things (and therefore something I should just hand over another loads of dosh for) or whether they've simply not been careful enough..?!?!
Plus - wouldn't you expect a garage to let the owner know something like this has happened during any work, rather than leave it as a 'surprise' for the owner to find on the next fill-up?!?! 2008 RRS HSE Stornoway Grey

Well, £170-odd later, I've just picked her up with the seal fixed.

I must admit, I was somewhat surprised and queried the bill, but was fobbed off with the "old seal was old/perished etc." (i.e. not their fault)... safe to say - not terribly impressed considering in the past month, I've forked out over £1k on the 10 year service & MOT plus £1,500 on a wheel bearing, fuel breather tube and tracking with the same garage and it's been returned to me with the seal torn...

If it was as they say then they should have informed you before handing the car back or asked you if you wanted it replaced as it was not in good condition it sound's like someone there is a bit of a cowboy or the apprentice did it and said nothing if i were you i would not use them again
