Newbie advice please. 3.0 OR 3.6 diesel?

Hi all, looking at my first adventure into RRS ownership. I'm going for diesel and I'm reading hugely conflicting advice on whether the 3.0 or 3.6 is better? I'm looking at a facelift 2009/2010 model. Any advice welcome please.

3.6 can have turbo issues about £2k to sort as well as the usual 3.0 can snap the crank in a few cases about £12k but these things do not happen a lot but they can and with the 3.0 its as and when nobody seems to know but if the 3.6 has been allowed to cool properly not as many issues Thumbs Up

Ok, thanks. Is the 3.0 regarded as being the more advanced engine? It's a bit better on juice by the look of it, but doesn't seem to be way ahead in MPG, and has less puff than the 3.6. Is the 3.6 regarded as being old school technology?

IMHO, avoid the 3.0 diesel and go for the 3.6: much more reliable, and much more fun to drive as well Thumbs Up

Sure, you should look at the state of the turbos, but unlike the crank lottery, you can at least preemptively replace the turbos for peace of mine --

There are not 1000's of crank failures on the 3.0 but i would be a little concerned about it if i had the choice of the two Thumbs Up

The 3.6TDV8 is the better engine, no doubt. Goes better, sounds better. If you can choose between the two, then 3.6 every day. Thumbs Up

I've had both. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi all. Found a car and I'm picking it up tomorrow. 2010 facelift 3.6. Need to look it over with a fine toothcomb, but it looks the real deal with a full main dealer service history and it's in the right colour, Stornoway Grey, with beige leather. Can't wait!

What he said. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Spiffing wheel centre caps available

Hi all, picked the car up yesterday and drove it back from Halifax to Pompey. First impressions- I love it! The adaptive cruise is wonderful and makes rolling along in traffic so easy. I had a warning light come up within about 30 miles saying the key battery is low, so no real worries there and I’ve put new batteries in both keys this morning. I then had a low washer fluid alarm which again is sorted now by refilling the fluid. The only one that worried me was a ‘Suspension fault’ alarm that came up halfway home. I couldn’t understand it as I’d checked it before buying and it raised and lowered correctly as it should and it still does. However once I’d tried it again last night the alarm cleared, so I’m wondering if I was running on the motorway at too high or low a height? Would that cause the alarm? One to keep an eye on either way.

I don’t think much of the sat nav- it was directing me towards Manchester City centre at one point! DAB radio works well but the interface is a bit clunky. Everything else works but I haven’t yet found out how to display the mpg. I filled the car to the brim in Halifax, and it showed at just under half left once back in Pompey, a trip of 249 miles, and it still says I have 198 miles left at the steady 75 mph I did all the way.
