If I'm understanding your post correctly,,, repairing egr valves,, never heard of this being done before always been a case of replace, unless it's the 2.7 engine and most people have them blanked off. Egr valves on the V8 are not so much of a problem as the V6 but whatever you have done bite the bullet and do both valves as if it's only one causing trouble now the other will follow suit not long after. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Black smoke when accelerating would be a split intercooler hose,, ( two big hoses on top of the engine) if you were to see excessive whitish smoke and / or lumpy idle on startup then I would suspect egr valves 2010 RRS, TDV8
