Windscreen insurance.

How does windscreen replacement work these days ?

Do I need to talk to insurance first?

I'm with admiral ?

I just did it online when I was with admiral.

You might have to call and argue if you have a newer vehicle under lease/PCP and thus need an OEM part. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

Read through your policy documents, different Insurers have their own preferred windscreen repairers/fitters.

They recommend autoglass.

Booked it all thru the autoglass website, link from admiral website.

Ensure they fit the correct replacement, not a cheap copy. John

You really want Pilkington Opticool, doesn't have to be LR branded, but they will probably try to fob you off with a cheap Chinese copy.
The fitter will probably break the exterior "A" pillar trim clips on removal, so make sure he/she has a replacement set before you let them start or you may see them fly off at speed.

Lucky you !
Just over 2 weeks ago I contacted my insurance company regarding the n/s front window having a chip and small crack. They took all the details and £85 excess payment and said someone would contact me to book an appointment to come out a fit it. I have since chased them to be told we are waiting for the supplier to give us a price and availability of the glass.
The crack has now grown to 10 inches long and still not heard a thing regarding the replacement window. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

Yeah tried that with me, originally told insurance only wanted genuine L/R screen which they agreed to. Autoglass turn up twice with some screen made in South Africa I think, refused to let them fit either, eventually came with genuine L/R (Pilkington) screen in L/R packaging, even got £50.00 refund on my excess for the inconvenience. Thumbs Up

Cheers

don't think so.

It's on their records.

They are putting the screen excess up by £20 this year (for everyone)

I had a cowboy window fitter out on Monday from the insurance company to replace my passenger front window who was a complete animal trying to remove the door card and cracked glass. The glass looked like someone had hit it with a hammer by the time he got it out to then find the new glass was cracked so he refitted the old one which is so badly damaged I haven't been able to use the car since.
Someone is coming out today with a second glass to fit. I told insurance company that I will not have the fitter from Monday and they need to send someone else as he is a rude and arrogant bodger who had no care for the car he was working on.

I have a collection of trim clips I found on the drive after he had left that should be holding my door card on.

Insurance company apologised for him leaving me with a car I can't use but said their is nothing they can do about it and they would try and get another glass as quick as possible.

Let's hope today is a better experience and I have the use of my car for the weekend! 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior
