Mines the 3 litre , not any real town driving where we live but as a rough idea
Mixed long term 29mpg
Like your Nan 42mpg
Smooth but making progress 33mpg
No wife or kids with you and deliberately taking the winding roads in sport dynamic mode 22mpg

Re: Real Life Fuel Consumption (Diesels)

I have the 2015.5MY 306hp SDV6 3ltr:
Around Town (5 mile journey) - as it isn’t a suitable car for such sort journeys but driving to the next village is about that distance and I wouldn’t see better than 26-28mpg simply because the engine would not be fully warmed up.
Spirited Country Drive - Twisty back roads in Dynamic mode, putting a smile on your face type driving - >30mpg
Motorway/Gentle Drive - sticking religiously to speed limits I have had up to 48mpg over a 110 mile trip from Birmingham to West London on the M40
Motorway (pushing along) - how fast? Type driving - did Gaydon to Stirling ( nearly 270 miles and arrived at destination on vapours, less than 30 miles range in the tank....) at pressing on type speeds and averaged 27mpg...... those sweeping curve sections of the M6 in Cumbria and the M74 southern section were just made for Dynamic mode and a heavy right foot..... but if you start doing a lot of gear changing while pressing on fuel economy really drops off severely.......... have had less than 25mpg showing on the trip computer in those conditions. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Mixed driving but more town on a 306 sdv6 I'm getting 23mpg after 23000 miles. You will find that the actual figure is 2-3mpg less than what the odometer says. But then my car is f**cked so isn't really a good comparison.

About to issue a summons so wish me luck. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

My 3.0 HSE is almost 1 year old and has now completed 16,525 miles. I've logged the fuel used against mileage covered and have an average of 31.42 mpg for the whole period. I run a set of winter tyres which were used for 4389 miles this year and returned 28.76 mpg. The summer tyres have returned 32.49 mpg. My best recorded figure, between fill-ups' over a distance of 536 miles has been 35.35 mpg whilst the worst over 356 miles is 27.01mpg. For short runs in favourable conditions such as recently cruising on the back roads in France for around 150 miles gave an estimate close to 40mpg.
My typical motoring consists of 5 or 6 10 mile round trips per week plus one day with a 90 mile round trip. Additionally we will travel to Geneva 3 times per year at about 1,800 miles per journey. Then there will be trips to friends, meetings and holidays which mostly entail jouneys of at least 150 miles.
The service indicator came on at 15,500 miles, I use a tank of ad-blue every 6,000 miles and I've never had a dpf warning light come on.

Impressive data collection!

Interesting that you used 11.5% more fuel on the winter tyres. Might that be driving conditions, or do you think it is all down to rolling resistance?

Adam..

All mileage and fuel quantites stuck into an excel spreadsheet and answers produced by it, I like things like this to be easy!

I think there are a three factors on the winter tyre fuel consumption;

increased rolling resistance.
less longer journeys.
very cold starts, the weather does seem to have a significant effect on fuel consumption.

All in all though I'm very pleased with the outcome on fuel consumption.

One other big effect is wind resistance, high speed cruising on the auroroutes does the figures no good. At an average speed recently of 72mph over 400 miles the consumption was 33.5mpg, push it up to 80mph and the figure falls to 31mpg.
