Just whilst I'm pondering over finance length, etc.

Does anyone know roughly when they will fully replace the L494 now they've given it a mid-life facelift?

Would it be 3/4 years from now, or less?

Range Rover is due to debut in Fall 2020 as a 2021MY. LR May launch the L494 replacement at the same time.

As above, Range Rover in 2020 but I would think Sport will be replaced a year later as the current one came out a year after FFRR. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

It's usually a 7/8 year turnaround. The previous gen was from 2005-2013 and then they launched the L494 in 2013. The new version will probably be seen towards the end of 2020 now.

So there's only two years left on this current model ?

What you guys are saying makes perfect sense I guess 4/5yrs till facelift then a few more years then full change.

Need to go back to the drawing board then as the price for this model will presumably drop substantially when the new one is announced/released?

Will get the monthly payments to where I want them to be and go from there knowing there will be 0 equity in the car come end of term and if there is some equity then that's a bonus.

Will have to throw a decent chunk down to get it to where I want it to be and know that it won't hit the GFMV at the end of the term but oh well, such is life.

You forgot the Evoque coming next year - basically a mini Velar....

So if you lot were financing a facelift and know there's a new model coming in 2/3 years tops - how would you finance it, what would make the most sense ?

I guess your major concern is the future value of the car which is of course protected in a PCP deal but probably will cost more to finance. I would compare all finance options and determine which will cost the least over say a three year period. You then need to make a call on what you believe the fv will, this can be done using the PCP gfv figure as a guide; the finance companies don't make their calculations based on making a loss on the final value of the car. Looking at the finance options available to you determine how much can be saved with the cheapest and that saving will then give some additional protection on the value of the car at th end of your finance period.
i had a similar situation last year when I bought my car in that i was concerned about diesel car prices in 3 years falling out of bed with the hoohaa on diesel. For the first time ever I used a pcp deal as I felt the extra cost was worth it to guarantee the value. This probably cost me in the region of £3k but I have looked upon it as an insurance premium.

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

When I got mine last year, I looked around and found that if LR are giving a decent discount (and/or PCP contribution) with low rate APR, then PCP can be the way to go, otherwise leasing is cheaper. I got mine via PCP in the end, because they were offering a percent or two off the standard APR and a five figure discount.

If I were buying now (less discount on the MY18) I would probably go for a lease.

Compare this with the online PCP calculator. Use the up front lease cost as the PCP deposit to get a decent comparison, and then play around with adding an amount to it to see what effect any discount you could negotiate would have on the PCP monthlies. It comes to within a few grand of each other really. But PCP seems to edge it out ever so slightly and if I do my sums right I guess PCP could give a small reward at the end.

Although I don't really know if a 4yr old SDV8 Autobio is going to be worth 46k in 2022 so I don't know.

Having said that I'm not then locked into the contract until the end of the term so there's that.

Are we saying that the new model will be available to order from September 2021 onwards so roughly start of 2022 delivery ? Or would it be earlier or later ?

Don't shoot the messenger but a chap I was speaking to last week knows a commercial manager at JLR.

He'd mentioned to him that the parent company Tata are looking to make the refresh cycle longer so rather than the previous 8 years trend with a facelift after four years next time round it is more likely to be closer to 6 years.

That would put the new model back to autumn 2023 rather than 2021.

Like I said only passing on what someone passed on to me so please don't hold me to it or against me!
