Bmw 335d

Hi if anyone is interested, i know shmoogle may be.

I was on the bmw online builder last night, and it actually shows and allows you to spec up a 335d. Basic price is around £35k for the new coupe, available only in SE trim for now, with all the toys, sat nav, bluetooth, tints, leather, auto, adaptive xenons, 6cd etc etc, it comes to £40k..

Now although it may be priced correctly for the rest of the 3 series range.. thats silly money i reckon, you can get a 535d sport auto with visibility pack and media pack (what you need) for around the £32-24k mark right now, so not sure whether the 335d is worth it anymore.

Yes it has 280 bhp, does 0-60 in just shy of 6 seconds, but £40k for a 3 series coupe.. thats rrsport money for gawds sake.. yes running expenses may be slightly less, but the loss in room etc, not sure if its worth the change.

Im thinking the 535d sport option may be much better to be honest.. or an ex demo 335d may be a good option, at a more mid 30's sensible price with the toys.

Not convinced myself.

Actually you are wrong

I have been looking into this myself and the 5 series does not hold its value at all

I am actually very disappointed in the retaining value of the 5 series after 3 years

and even more after 5 years

the 3 series is much more sought after and will be in years to come

if you are not after a large family car then you are better of with the 3 series

It's not an RRS so why do we care? Laughing Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Yeah you have a point Havank.

I remember getting some figures on a £34k base 535d back in 2005 when i ended up buying my RR Sport, basically the residual on the 535 was only £14k through capital bank after 4 years, and on the RRS it was coming out to £20ish, and the 535d looked more expensive on the monthlies etc.

With the right kit, i.e. Sport, Visibility and Media pack, the 5 series will hold its value a lot better then an Se one, but you do have a point, 335d saloon may possible be a better bet. I used to have a 330d sport when i was at uni, was £27k new, kept it for 2.5 years and took the mileage from 4k to 32k and sold it as pex back to Bmw for £21k. That was fantastic deal, but i was buying a convertible in the middle of winter, so have a feeling they may have over subsidised the pex..

However, with all the Bmw's, they release the Se first, and as soon as the sport models come out, everyone wants them instead and the Se's drop in value... i.e. check the 535d prices.. Sport for around £34k, SE's late 20's. For the extra spec you get on the sport, and they look better, i would always get out of an Se when the Sports arrive, and seeing as though they aren't very far between each other in launch on the coupes, think its Sept 25-6th for the SE coupe's and Janish for the sports.. may be a very very short hop between.

People pay up to 52k for a fully loaded M3 and the 335 isn't far short of that in terms of package so in terms of where it fits in the range I don't think 40k is unreasonable (even though it's undoubtedly a lot of money).

I agree, the 535d doesn't seem to be holding it's value over a lease term very well. One thing that does slightly annoy me is the fact that the market loves the M Sports and not the SEs. What I hate about the M Sports is the dechroming. It only works on the TiAg cars, so if you like your darker colours you're stuffed. Also, BMW use SEs in most of their marketing material - so they obviously think they look better too.... if you could spec an M Sport but retain the chromed window surrounds, it'd be spot on.

I'd only be interested in the Touring though, really... I might get away with a saloon, but the coupe is right out. Are these new six-cylinder cars not all being released at the same time i.e. coupe, saloon and touring? That was the feeling I got but I may be wrong... Confused

yeah thats what i thought..
it is breaking down the monthly installment of: £634
I.e. every month £541 of that is actually for the finance of the base car, the rest is to fund the remainder of the options..

I see... odd way to do it. Financing the options as well as the base car?

yeah it is an odd breakdown.. normally you just take the figure OTR price of the car and just work out the payments on that whole amount (including the options). .. is simply a useless breakdown, but some people may find it interesting to note that the sat nav is costing them X a month in reality..
Confused

Hmm... £34 a month for Satnav. I don't pay that for Sky+ Laughing

The petrolhead in me likes the look of the petrol 335i, but the consumption isn't much better than my RRS (although interesting to note it is more economical). Mmmmm... 306 horses... Thumbs Up

It is useful to have this option - my work had a policy of purchasing company cars on behalf of their staff with certain constraints.
i.e. only western european cars with certain extra options like sat nav.
if you wanted other extras you could pay for them yourself. RRS TDV8 HSE - Hybrid TV - Sunroof - Adaptive Front Headlights - Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 system

my (dealer helpful salesman) sent me a 3 series coupe brochure and price list.. 335d looks nice.. with the right alloys and kit..
am seriously tempted, all down to delivery though, if too late i won't bother, be too close to the M3 launch then and that way will loose stacks in between.. however if he can get me a coupe by Nov i may take it on..
Specs seem quite generous for Bmw, but it is £35k to begin with..

I bet you there'll be spare capacity in the channel at launch - if a couple of cancelled orders or speculative dealer purchases can't be found I'll be very surprised. It does look good... I'm going to my dealers launch BBQ next weekend and will be doing my very own set of grilling.... (of the sales monkey, that is).
