So we've been thing of getting a roof rack and research shows two ways to go. We can have the roof rails fitted and put the bars on when we need or the clamp over the side method. Has anybody got experience of the roof rails version and if there are any obvious downsides likewise positives please. I'm leaning towards rails as it limits the potential for scratching the car as opposed to the whole rack on/off method. Aesthetics what does it look like fitted and anybody recommend companies to buy from.

As you can see I have roof-rails. I personally don't mind the asthetics and I prefer these to the other type as I'm sure they see very sturdy. To me they look purposeful and don't detract from the looks. They're not something to take off regularly as it'd take a while, though they're easy enough to install. Cross-bars take a bit of time to learn how to put on but the trick is to make sure you move both sides along the slide at the same time.
