Croatia 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Buckingham Blue
Croatian pirate offers reward / TDV8 needs your help!!

Dear All,

After my beloved 2010 TDV8 developed loud clicking noise on de acceleration (metal on metal from below front part of the car),
I have visited official Land Rover distributer and their workshop for diagnostics and repair.
Car was lifted, "mechanic" rolled the front left wheel a bit to reproduce the sound. "It's the front diff!".

Car was in the shop for more than 3 weeks.

I got the car, car was fine for 15 minutes and then it started doing the sound again. Exactly the same sound (I am sound engineer by vocation). So I got it back to the shop but was unable to reproduce the sound...sound came back later the same day when I was far from the shop.

Then, a string of unfortunate things took place in sequence:

My mother died unexpectedly, in my arms. I am still recovering from that as this was too much to handle.

After two weeks, I learn there is an English bloke running independent LR shop. Went there and one could see right away that he IS the real deal; front prop shaft is loose at the front joint.

Next day, back to the car and to the shop. Car was lifted, this time they did take the plate off so they could actually see something in there and they've said - yes, this is front prop shaft.

Once I have realised they where pulling the healthy teeth out (front diff) - I have asked a full refund and was declined on the spot (they've said front diff was broken and needed to be fixed ((hence NOT replaced, Invoice states fixed rather than replaced).

So, my question is ( if anyone is reading this boring stuff) - what would you do?

Please remember couple of things - i bought this car used from them 6 months ago, they have lied they made the full service (meaning oils, filters, pads) and - I live in Croatia. So no insurance and if i bring them to court this will just collect dust for 5 years and then be discarded.

For now I am struggling between extreme violence ( local specialty ) & writing in my bad English to someone at Land Rover who is in charge of their international dealers.

Provider of the LR email address from which I get some results is entitled to a bottle of Croatia's finest stuff delivered to your door by DHL. Unlike LR dealer - I do keep my promises.

Sorry for the long rant, but I am getting desperate here...many thanks in advance!

So they fixed the broken diff so they say and the noise came back and then you found the prop was knackered or did they just leave it loose when they repaired the front diff i think it may have been the front prop may have been the issue as i have just had to replace mine and apparently its common on these cars so the prop shaft specialist said Thumbs Up

Well, they claim they did repair the front diff - problem is, there was nothing wrong with it...it was the prop shaft all along...the sound and the symptoms did not change at all before after their "work".

I have just placed order for prop shaft with the local indie, so it's there where the car will get sorted.

But I am far from letting the local stealers off the hook...

Thanks for your feedback,

I will keep you all posted how things develop, will be interesting for sure.

"Local specialty" does include certain level of pain induced in surprisingly short amount of time... Wink

And thanks for rotating the picture...is there a setting somewhere to toggle between portrait/landscape?

No idea about the pic. I just saved it to my Chromebook and then rotated it there. Steve.

If the photo is saved in your gallery then there is an editing tool that allows photos to be rotated and resaved back to the gallery for posting. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

It sounds to me that all they may have done is changed the oil in the front diff and added a friction modifier to try to give the impression that they have physically changed mechanical components?

What did they say they had “fixed” on the diff?

Jim

Hi Nino,

I have an ugly face too, so we must be related! Smile

Regarding the indi shop, it's very near Zagreb - Skidmore Auto Centar d.o.o.

Cell phone:+385 98 352 993, ask for Tony. Highly recommended!

Bojan

Hi Jim4244,

that was exactly my question but they where very vague on this, smoke and mirrors technique ... this was not answered and now they don't like me any more. Not returning my e-mails nor calls.

Well, today they got another e-mail from me, my attorney in Cc, with a link to an opened case with LR UK.
Next sentence was me saying I will now have a look how to raise a case in Croatia as I think the whole thing is a fraud...

Stay tuned, I wander where all this is going...will it turn into SF? Love affair? 70' Kung Fu? We will soon find out...Smile
