Laser Headlights

Does anyone who have them know if icon shows up on the dash when they are working?

Have it enabled on mine but not sure if I have been on a clear enough road yet to get them to work, so wondered if there was an indicator, or if it would just be obvious they are working?

It's an additional high beam that only the car can activate, when activated it should illuminate for 500m

RRSman,

So when I go to resell mine, I can make my car sound more desirable by saying it has Laser Light thingy and nobody will be any wiser Whistle

Laughing That is for sure Jas! They are great on country B roads etc and really light up the road but they don't work on motorways etc so you can't really tell they are on..

Are these LED headlamps really any better or is it just technology for technologies sake.

They went from Bi-xenon plus auxilliary high beam in the L320 to just Bi-xenon in the L494 and now to Led or LED Laser in the L494.

It would be interesting to see if the actual light output has increased with the latest LED/LED laser headlamps over the original Bi-xenon plus auxilliary high beam in the L320.

I have just upgraded my 2010 TDV8 with OSRAM Night Breaker Unlimited Bi-xenon bulbs and Phillips LED auxiliary H7 bulbs and the output of light is seriously good. The reflector area of the L494 LED healamps is very small. I seriously question whether there has been any improvement.

They throw the light longer (half a mile apparently) but as I said it only works on certain roads and only above 50mph so I think the tech can certainly be made better.

I suspect no improvement. My 14MY L494 certainly does not have lasers, but the dip beam is adequate enough, whilst the full beam does nothing more than illuminate the trees. The beams are not well focused and the light wishy-washy (if you know what I mean) as a result.

Compared to my old 2005 sport, the dip is similar the full beam worse. I tend to use the front fogs a lot to improve the view close up.

The L494 does everything that the L320 did, but less well. I rue the day that I bought it.
