It's simple - LR won't sell parts to third parties so no one is able to offer a true recon engine except LR. Anyone who offers one is either lying about it being a recon or is sourcing non-original parts from some other source. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

So its also feasible that a percentage of us may be driving around with cars that have had the change in past ownership, but unaware to the current owner.

if Range Rover cant manufacture parts that do the job they are designed to do? maybe its worth giving non Genuine parts a try? they might be of better build quality? whats the worst that can happen? |

In my line of business I have known generic/pattern part manufacturers to find and produce a modified part the worked quicker than the oem.

The extended warranty doesn’t cover it though by all accounts. |

Actually, they don’t. These engines are built for JLR by Ford at Bridgend. Under the sale to TATA, Ford did exactly what BMW did when they sold the company to Ford, badly, no warranty on the engines, so whole cost falls on JLR. Ford can charge now, what they think is the going rate, the discounted rate now at an end. This was the push to produce their own 4 in line and 6 in line engines, as the cost was cheaper than carrying on with Ford production. Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4 |

Actually, removing the body isn't that big a deal. The vehicle has been designed to have it done and a competent garage can do it in a couple of hours. Compared to the time taken to sort out other issues, it's a small cost really. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Saxton 4 x 4 (historically at least) are one of the worst dealers around. A quick google of their feedback makes for solemn reading . They were getting sued left right and centre at one point.
