Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE Java Black

As dm says the cranks are still braking on the newer models so what changes have been made are not doing what they intended and as on the other post in other countries its 10-15 % according to people who live there and its mentioned in this post as well Thumbs Up

I have sent LR a email about this issue, let's see if they reply . It's a bit worrying when you have a L494 with 7 months left with warranty Big Cry

Interesting that the source you quote is talking about pre 2012 engines only:

“The issue affects only 1.3 percent of Land Rover engines sold in South Africa over the past 10 years,” she said.

“Changes have been made at a production level and all new engines manufactured since 2012 use a new bearing design"

So what is happening with m roe recent engines? Is it just a "normal" failure rate? Same as any other marque suffers from? (All mechanical things break to some degree)

This might be ALL their engines, only crankshaft failure and not the just V6 diesels so the proportion of the V6 diesel 'might' be much higher!

March 2015 AB v6 diesel - 80,000 miles and engine fails, fortunately covered under manufacturer’s warranty. Main dealer has been excellent providing a courtesy RRS, however, they have been unable to explain what went wrong as entire engine unit has to be returned to JLR. Approvals for new engine and engine harness authorised very swiftly by JLR - should get car back in next 7 days, unfortunately I only have just over 1 month remaining on warranty.

A new engine from LR will come with two years of warranty anyway, irrespective of any vehicle warranty. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It is actually only warranted until the end of the original warrany period...

So that brand new engine only has a month warranty...

Really? All LR parts fitted by a LR dealer are covered by a two year warranty of their own. Why should an entire engine be any different? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Is it that if it’s paid for by the warranty then it’s only guaranteed till the end of the warranty ?

The bill with the engine harness is closer to £30k and the warranty expires in 1 month.

Question for Disco_Mikey

Mikey, can you tell us what you would charge to source and fit a used engine, (typical cost) This info may be of use to quite a lot of forum members. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Never fitted a used 3.0, due to them Censored themselves so often...

2.7 replacement is £4.5k inc new oil pump and belts while it’s in bits

A 3.0 replacement would be around £7k
